Granddaughter's card for Her Mommy

Some kids would rather stay messy!

Hi, Friends........

This post is dedicated to kids, and especially to my Little Peach, Andrea Burns, age 3.  I noticed that Simon Says Stamp was having a Summer Vacation: Kid's Challenge for ages 2-16.  Since Andrea's Mommy's birthday is tomorrow (Happy Birthday, my firstborn!), I thought that I would let my granddaughter make her a card and then I could enter it in the challenge.  I keep telling my granddaughter that she can stamp with Grandma when she turns 4, but I fudged a little bit and let her stamp just this time for her card.  I hope I didn't start something!! :)

I wasn't sure at age 3, almost 4, how much she could actually do herself, but she ended up doing a lot of it!  I lined up the paper in my cutter and helped her push down hard enough to connect for cutting.  I inked the stamp and placed it, but she pushed down on it with my help.  She picked out the flowers and leaf.  I dispensed the glue.....lol...  I placed the first two layers of the flower and the leaf and she put on the yellow center.  I mounted it on the card base.

Here is our little Andrea (age 3) watercoloring a background for the card.

Thank you for letting me share this special post.  I'll be back to regular posting and new follower intros next time!!!  Don't forget to enter my DOUBLE GIVEAWAY for your chance to win!!!

Have a lovely day!

  1. Oh Janis, she's a natural!!! Love that photo of her making the watercolor background with that serious attention to her task! Good for Grandma, letting her stamp this special card! My just-turned-4 grand-daughter has been stamping all by herself for about 6 months now and I was pleased at how she took to it. She uses wood mounted AND clear mounted stamps both...and is quite the stamping queen. Inking the stamps, stamping, cleaning the stamps on a wet paper towel, then putting them away...I love it! I think that you may have lit a fire in Andrea with this handcrafted card!

    1. Karen,

Your accounts of stamping with your little 4 yr old granddaughter inspired me to let Little Peach give it a try this time! I had to be quite vigilant with this particular project, though, because I was using Staz-On for the stamped image...Eeeek!!!! I wanted to make sure it stamped well through the watercolor background and didn't also make an indelible image on the little "farm" overalls she was wearing.....(that were her mommy's when she was a little girl!). I have some ultra-washable ink pads for when I actually get her stamping more after her birthday. :)

    2. YIKES!!! I have to say that you are a braver grandma than I if you let Little Peach get within a mile of StazOn ink! I may be a crafty grammie, but my granddaughter doesn't even know about StazOn, and I want to keep it that way..! She has washable ink pads too but I have found that Stampin Up dye ink pads are actually quite washable if you get to it right away. Amazingly enough, I get more ink on myself than she does when we're stamping together. Does that say more about her or about met???

    3. Hahaha....I was always the same way about making more of a mess than my kids. I don't know abt with Little Peach, though. She's pretty good at getting paint and markers on her when she is "crafting". :)

  2. This card couldn't be cuter! That watercolor design and the super cute stamp is just perfect for your granddaughter's card. My girl loves to stamp and even has her own stamp sets now (Disney princesses of course!). She knows that most of the stamps we own belong to mommy and she is very careful when she borrows them because she doesn't want to lose the privilege. I'll bet Andrea could learn to use your stamps in no time after this introduction.

    1. Thanks so much, Shannon!!! I think Little Peach has some Disney princess stamps in a little activity set that we are waiting to open, too. She has Disney princess everything else, so why not stamps???? Ha.
Thanks for the encouragement to give her more opportunities for creative play!!

    1. Diana,

Those old afghans last forever, don't they? But they are still cozy to wrap up in, after all these years. There are actually two afghans of similar colors in that picture. One of them was a wedding gift 33 years ago and has been in use every year since then! It looks better than I do!!! Ha.

    2. I have 6 grandchildren ages 8, 4,4,2,1, and 3 months old. I craft with all but the two little ones. They like to stamp and use my die cut machines.

    3. Wow...you craft with the 2 yr old, too?? Now that is brave!!! Even my not-quite-4 yr old Little Peach still occasionally puts things in her mouth, so I can't imagine what it would be like with a 2 yr old!! And you let them use your die-cut machine, too!?! I have a lot to learn about being a good crafting grandma!!!
