Hi, Friends.......

Welcome to Week 3 of my ATC Birthday Party!!! Thank you so much to all of you who have entered Artist Trading Cards in the first two weekly challenges! I have loved your kitties and chickens. Everyone's entries have just been fabulous!!! Remember that each Monday in February I'll be announcing a new theme that pertains to me or something I love, but you can still play in the previous challenges, too!! All the challenges and giveaways close on Mar. 3, 2018.

The ATC challenge theme for week 3 is:

"Adorable Teapot Collection"

I have loved tea for a long time........even before I loved coffee! Hubby and I enjoyed herbal teas (tisanes), in particular, long before they were popular. Back in those days (late 1970s - early 1980s....remember I am turning 60, so I AM that old!!!), even before we were married, we were scouring the health food sections of stores to find any herbal teas at all. Some of our favorites were among the early flavors of Celestial Seasonings: Mo's 24 and Pelican Punch. Tell me if you have ever even heard of those!!! :)

Soon, friends and family were giving me teapots.....and a small teapot collection began brewing. I have more that are not in the photos below, but these are some of my favorites.

This was originally a bookshelf and is way too tall for my teapots, but hubby wanted them to be on display for me.  <3

I also have this little display case with a few of my kitty mugs and some of the other kitty things I have collected along the way. There's even a kitty wood-mount rubber stamp. I have a duplicate in my craft stash.

I apologize for only having one teapot ATC made to share with you. I wanted to do white embossing on one of my marker refill water backgrounds for a soft look. I used a cute and very old teapot stamp from my stash....one of the first rubber stamps my dear MIL ever gave me!

I added the sentiment and little heart from Elizabeth Craft Designs - Coffee & Tea stamp set (sadly discontinued) and the little pair of tea cups from Stamplorations - Eat, Drink, Be Merry stamp set (retiring, only a few left). I sponged Distress Ink in Wilted Violet around the edges and splattered with some water.

Arrrrghhh.....this looks like a giant teapot-shaped spaceship!!  (sigh) Kind of like Elon Musk's Tesla roadster-turned-spaceship that is in space right now with its mannequin driver.  (LINK)  Some people have toooooooo much money!!  lol...

So............now it is your turn to make a teapot/tea themed ATC. I would love to see a teapot image on your ATC, but a tea cup or tea bag/tag will be acceptable. Please, no coffee themes for this challenge. I love coffee, but this is TEA ONLY. :)

Not sure what an ATC is???? Have questions about the Rules and Guidelines for my ATC Challenges? The answers to all those questions may be found on THIS POST.

Thank you so much for your participation and all the super ATCs you have made so far. Remember that there will be a prize randomly awarded to one participant in each of the four weekly challenges plus one for the blog badge giveaway....5 prizes total. So be sure to post my ATC BD blog badge in your sidebar and participate in each of the weekly ATC theme challenges for the best chance of being drawn. You can enter any of the weekly challenges until March 3, 2018.

Thank you also for your sweet comments on my ATCs. I know mine are pretty basic compared to many of yours.....but I am having a lot of fun making my few to share with you. I can't wait to see your tea(pot)-themed ATCs!!!

Hi, Friends.....

I'm not a big tag maker.....(understatement of the year, there!)....but in my efforts to use scraps, I realized some tags were in my future.

Layered cards are my typical style, but I hate to "waste" all those lovely middle parts of the decorative mats that have panels above them. So I frequently die cut a shape from the hidden underneath layers for future use.....and quite often that is a tag. But then I don't use them!! Eeek!!! So I grabbed a couple of them to attempt a simple layered tag.

It's hard to tell in this photo, but the white piece is dry embossed with snowflakes. I took a glitter gel pen and colored in a few of the centers and stamped a simple sentiment. I wasn't sure how that would turn out (stamping over the embossed texture), but it worked perfectly. I added a stray snowflake button and a loose gold emBELLishment someone had sent me in a little fun Christmas grab bag. Even the ribbon is from my stray ribbon container....a trimmed leftover from making a bow in the past!

Products used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set (tags)
Winnie & Walter - Comfort + Joy stamp set
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Darice - Snowflakes embossing folder
Simple embellishments and bit of scrap ribbon from my stash

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my tag! Who knows...you might see another one of these showing up later this month. :)

Hi, Friends.....

I couldn't let Valentine's Day go by without posting this sweet owl card. I already have a card for my hubby, but I might give him this one, too! Whooo-hooo! It might be too cutesy for him, though. Still deciding. He doesn't get home until the wee hours tonight or tomorrow so I still have time to decide.

This is another "completely out of scraps and strays" card. I had this partial package of 3-D owl stickers and the sentiment strip cut off of a 12x12 paper. I teamed them up with a stray woodgrain background piece, some squares and loose leaf die-cuts, and a burlap banner cut ages ago. I also found some extra brown hearts I had cut several weeks ago. Yay!! LOVE this cute critter card! Awwwwww.....

Products used...ALL SCRAPS AND STRAYS!! Yay!!!
Winnie & Walter - In Bloom: Maggie's Roses Cutaways die set (for leaves)
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set (for hearts)
My Favorite Things Die-namics - Stitched Square STAX die set
Inspired by Stamping - Fancy Labels 3 Dies
DCWV scraps
Distress Ink in Walnut Stain
Ranger - Glossy Accents (for coating over the hearts)
Core'dinations Kraft Cardstock
Owls from stash
Hope you enjoyed this sweet critter card! Thank you for stopping by.

Here's another card in my flurry today!

Hi, Friends......

I TOLD you I had a flurry of cards to post! :)

You might recall that I recently began making cards and selling them at church on a donation basis for the family help center where I volunteer. It is a Christian ministry my church supports. I figured this was a way that I could do my part in raising money for the center.

Someone at church asked me to make a wedding card....which I did (actually two) and they both sold the week the lady was gone. So I made another one and it sold, too!....before the lady arrived at church that day! But it was okay because I had actually made a batch of similar ones....so now I have 5 more to take. This is one of them. :) Hopefully, the lady will manage to get one of these!!!

I am delighted to find a way to use the journaling cut-apart cards in the DCWV stacks. I strategically angled them around on one of the 12x12 sheets in the stack so the words would show and glued them down. Then I cut the piece to size for backgrounds. This lovely bride and groom stamp is one that Heather Hoffman recently sent me in a de-stashing prize. (THANKS, Heather!!!)

Products used include:
Inkadinkadoo - Kissing Bride and Groom stamp #94965 (discontinued)
Versamark Ink
Ranger - Embossing Powder (silver regular)
Lawn Fawn - Small Stitched Rectangles die set
DCWV Everlasting Love stack
Distress Ink in Black Soot
Sizzix - Branch with Leaves die
Core'dinations silver cardstock
Prima flowers
Rhinestones from my stash
Silver ribbon rose from thrift store

Thank you for looking at my card! I appreciate you stopping by.

Hi, Friends......

Here's the next one up in my cards waiting to be blogged. I have been making a flurry of cards in the last few days and am tryyyyyying to get caught up with blogging them. This one is a Thinking of You card for an elderly gentleman who has been attending our church. He's had some recent health issues keeping him at home.

I love that a bold piece of fabulous patterned paper paired up with a sentiment panel can make a nice masculine card.  No frills...just the way most of them like it. I was able to use a scrap of DCWV cardstock and a sentiment panel that had been in my stash for ages. Yay!

Products used include: SCRAPS....I used up a few more scraps! :)
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set (for pierced rectangle background piece)
DCWV patterned cardstock scrap
Clear Dollar Stamps - Scriptures of Peace (discontinued) (for sentiment)
Distress Ink in Walnut Stain
Clear embossing powder
Core'dinations Kraft Cardstock

Thank you for stopping by! I still have more of my flurry of cards to post...so I will see you soon!!

Hi, Friends.....

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! After enjoying some warmer weather and then clear and cold, we are back to snow as usual here in Idaho.....and currently in the middle of a winter storm. I put a fresh suet feeder out for the birds in front of my craft room window. It's fun to see the chickadees and juncos enjoying it.
(Skippyjon can't figure out why they won't visit the feeder when he is poised to make a flying leap from the porch rail beneath it! lol..   "Here birdy, birdy, birdy....")

So...with the flurries of snow, are you ready for a flurry of cards?????

I have been making a bunch of cards and haven't had a chance to blog them!!! So I will be posting a bunch of different cards with limited descriptions beyond their product lists. Here is my latest.......a 25th Wedding Anniversary card for a couple in our church. They are celebrating it this week. Last Sunday they brought a sheet cake to share with us. Yum! It was decorated with a "ball and chain" in icing!! Hahahaha.

Hi, Friends.......

Welcome to Week 2 of my ATC Birthday Party!!! Thank you so much to all of you who have already entered Artist Trading Cards in my Week 1 challenge. Your entries have wowed me with their creativity and kitty-sweetness!!! Remember that each Monday in February I'll be announcing a new theme that pertains to me or something I love, but you can still play in the previous challenges, too!! All the challenges and giveaways close on Mar. 3, 2018.

The ATC challenge theme for week 2 is

"And The Chickens."

I don't talk about my chickens as much as I do about my cats, but I have a very small backyard flock of one rooster and four hens. They are the baddest, naughtiest chickens in the world and I love them very much. lol....

My little flock (starting in the middle back and circling to the left): Frederick (my rooster), Black Araucana, Rosie, Golde, and Speckle.  They are very exasperating sometimes!!  But they are also funny and they turn bugs into eggs.   So I love them.  :)

I made a couple of chicken ATCs to share with you.

I don't very often see something at a small display of stamping supplies in a store and decide to buy one on a whim....but I fell in love with this rooster silhouette stamp at our local drug store and had to buy it.

I think he goes well with the fun sentiment from The Ink Road. My backgrounds are from my stack of watercolor marker refill sheets. :)

My second ATC is a simple one made from a Graphic 45 Once Upon a Springtime cutapart. I die cut a tag shape from just the chicky part of the piece. The Hope sentiment is from A Creative Journey with Melissa - Awareness Ribbon Set #1.

I sponged Distress ink over my embossed (Darice - Dandelion) background for a gardeny look.

This reminds me of my naughty chickens who often lay their eggs in secret nests they make in the weeds and grass around our place.  Sometimes it is weeks before we find the eggs!  Ugh...

I TOLD you my chickens were bad!!!

So............now it is your turn to make a chicken-themed ATC. :) I strongly prefer realistic looking chicken images for this challenge, but all styles are acceptable. Also....please have an actual CHICKEN (rooster, hen, and/or chick) image on your entry.....NOT just an egg!!

Not sure what an ATC is???? Have questions about the Rules and Guidelines for my ATC Challenges? The answers to all those questions may be found on THIS POST

Thank you so much for all the fabulous ATCs you have made so far. You have until March 3, 2018.

Thank you for your encouraging comments on my ATCs.  I am still a beginner at these.  Tell me what you think of my chicken ones today. I am looking forward to seeing yours!!!  Have a great week!!!

Hi, Friends......

I am back with the second shaker I made with my new technique that I described in THIS POST. Basically I use a small ziplock bag to corral all the shaker bits and put the card together around that. In my other card, I did NOT use any dimensional foam. This made the card flatter for easier mailing and also kept the sequins from all falling down to the bottom so much.

For this card, I went ahead and put the dimensional foam inside as usual to see how much difference it made in the card. Since my shaker bits are all contained within the plastic ziplock, I did not have to be super careful to make sure there were no breaches in my foam "dam" around the sequin mix. Loving that!

Here is the result......

As you can see, this method does not give the same smooth as glass look as the regular way of making shakers. I think the dimensional foam on this one allows the inner ziplock to sag a tiny bit, making the slight wavy appearance somewhat more obvious than in my card without foam. Still, when it is in hand it is not bad at all.
Products used include: Scraps....all scraps....Yay!!!

Hi, Friends......
DISCLAIMER: This post is NOT for people who make perfectly polished, exquisitely designed cards of all kinds every time. It is for people who tear their hair out making shakers! So don't judge me if this shaker card doesn't look as nice as ones that you make!!! :)
I am very excited to share with you an idea that is still in its beginning experimental phases, but has turned the corner for me on making shakers. Recently when making THIS SHAKER I nearly had to be committed to an institution. It turned out very pretty, but I cannot begin to tell you my frustrations in making it. My hat is totally off to all you who make flawlessly gorgeous shakers effortlessly, but that is not I.

Recently Lindsey over at The Frugal Crafter posted some super-fun ideas to use sequins....shaker projects were involved.  (I was already beginning to hyperventilate with anxiety, but I calmed myself with a handful of chocolate truffles and watched the video...) She used an inexpensive page protector and a woodburning tool to make pocket pouches. Too complicated for me!  And even she admitted there were problems with the technique.

But I was noticing that page protectors are made of essentially the same material as the multidinous variety of tiny ziplock bags that I order cheap off of eBay for storing my little odds and ends. Why not make a shaker pouch out of one of these bags???? Would it work???? I didn't know. But it was worth a try.

I gathered all my panels for making a heart shaker card (all scraps from my stash!) and put some shiny sequins in a bag slightly larger than my window. Already this was soooooooooooo much easier than trying to guess how many sequins to use!!

One of my disappointments in making shakers is that all the shaker mix falls to the bottom when the card is upright. My friend Becca Yahrling had the brilliant suggestion of gluing a few of the mix bits here and there in the window area so you always see some. Genius!

I had this additional idea on not adding dimensional foam in between the panels. There would still be some movement, but not the freefall of mix bits. (I do love the rattling freefall sound, but not the look of everything at the bottom!)

So here's my card.......

As you can see, it is not 100% perfect.  I do have a sheet of acetate under the top panel, but you can still detect some slight irregularities in the reflection of the plastic shaker bag below.  I am rather a perfectionist so this bothers me a little bit.  When it is actually in hand, however, it looks pretty good as you naturally shift it to make the sequins move around and to minimize the glare.  I like how lots of the sequins stay up in the card even when it is upright.

Okay....so that's my new idea. It's not as nice and smooth looking as the regular way of making shakers...so I know this is not going to appeal to many of you more expert crafters.  The slight waviness is a definite drawback. In my opinion, though, the total ease of making them definitely makes up for this small loss in visual perfection.... and I bet my recipients won't even notice!!

I made one more shaker where I added dimensional foam to see how much difference it makes. I will be posting that soon. I am going to continue playing with this new technique, and I hope to work out some of the kinks. Please tell me what you think of it so far.

Thank you for stopping by today. I appreciate your visits and comments!!!
