PREPARING TO MEET THE NEW DOG..... |
"Cats are the ultimate narcissists. You can tell this by all the time they spend on personal grooming. Dogs aren't like this. A dog's idea of personal grooming is to roll in a dead fish."

Hi, Friends.......******************************************************
Little Peach and her Mommy were gone all day, so Grandma got the Big Shot out and had fun, fun, fun!! :)
I am very excited about this post because I am participating in two really big events.
AND
You can find out all the fabulous details about these two challenges at these websites:
And did I mention that each of these has a hop along with it that promises to have some a-m-a-z-i-n-g prizes?!!! You do NOT want to miss those!
Paulina at Pretty Pink Posh is hostessing the super-fun Cutting Edge Blog Hop. Anyone can link up as long as they follow her easy rules, which include using at least one die-cut on your project....which I did!! More about my die-cut later....
Now let me talk about the Case Study Challenge. I had fun hopping through the list and wasn't sure I was up to the challenge of actually CASE-ing one of the cards. I mean, you know, these crafters are pros....and I mean PROS!!!...and I'm just a Grandma who lives in her cave. Now to CASE, as I understand the literal meaning, is to Copy And Steal Everything, right? But at the challenge site, they are just saying to draw inspiration from one of the hop cards. So I thought maybe even I could give that a try.

I took inspiration from that lovely tree silhouette with the bat in it. (Love bats!!!) I also loved the patterned background and the sketch. (I don't really know if she used a sketch, but I copied her plan!)
Here's the card I made:
My pink background paper is from Glitz - Love You Madly. I wanted it to be patterned, sort of like Barbara's, so I pulled out my brand-new Unity Itty Bitty- Feather Flight that I just got yesterday as a GIU prize (No hoarding this one! THANKS, Unity!!) and immediately did stamp surgery to separate the three feathers. I used the "feathery-est" one and stamped the background repeatedly with Memento London Fog ink, stamping twice before reinking to get both lighter and darker images. Love how it turned out!!
Other supplies I used include: DCWV - Twinkle Glints, Core'dinations cardstock, greeting stamp from my stash, Staz-On Black ink.
Hope you like my card!! I had so much fun making it for these very special challenges. Thanks so much for dropping by!
Eeeeeek.....I almost forgot! I have a New Follower.....#44!!! A big welcome to Melissa Vandridge of Vandicrafts!!! I only recently found her Artistry Challenges and I plan to participate often. Melissa also has all sorts of interesting things on her blog, such as life hacks (what??? oh, yes, helpful hints!), recipes, and her own artistic creations!! You really need to go take a look!! Thank you so much, Melissa for becoming a follower. Here is a ginormous new-follower smile just for you!!!

Love the layered diecut!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lucinde! Maybe I should have let that silver peek out a little bit more. My daughter looked at it and thought it was white core from the cardstock. She didn't realize it was actually layered until she saw the next photo. Oh, well.... :)

Love Blog Hops as I am introduced to so many "new-to-me" bloggers. What a great wealth of talent! I love to gain inspiration, ideas and techniques. Great cards and I love Clean and Simple! I have been eyeing the Tim Holtz die but didn't quite know what I'd do with it. Now I do. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet comment!! I love hops for the same reasons as you mentioned!!!

Janis
Love the idea of the silver and black layered die cuts! TFS!
ReplyDeleteThanks, obee!!! I appreciate so much you taking the time to stop by and comment on my project. I love how the little glint of silver under the black die cut looks.

Janis
there is something about that sentiment and image I find really 'creepy', this to me would make a great halloween card
ReplyDeleteMy card would make a good Halloween card? Or Barbara's that I cased? I thought mine looked cheery and bright. But maybe the black silhouette set that mood for you with the bird saying "hello". :o
DeleteI actually meant for it to look like a bird singing at dawn with a friendly greeting. But we all bring our own interpretation to the art we see. That's what makes it so personal. Thanks so much for your visit and comment!!!

Janis
Oh man, once I stopped laughing at that cat GIF, preparing to meet the new dog, and the comparison between dog and cat grooming, I finally got to your fabulous card! Well, I do love all things Tim Holtz and that branch and bird are just perfect for this CASED card! The silver underlay with the black give such great dimension! And that feathery background is just the right amount of subtle pattern. Glad to meet another stamper who isn't afraid to cut a stamp apart to meet her needs!
ReplyDelete(giggles) I thought you might like my GIF! :) Thanks so much for your sweet comment. I know what you mean about TH products.....amazing! I don't own very many, besides Distress Ink things, but love what I have. When I saw this bird die on clearance at JoAnns, it only took me a moment to snag it! Thanks for all your encouragement!!!

Janis
Wow, you got that TH die on clearance? Why doesn't my JoAnn's have deals like that??! And I just realized that I also have that Feather Flight Itty Bitty and will definitely have to remember to use it as a background sometime. The crazy thing is that I have several feather stamps but never pair them up with a bird image...so thanks for that creative push!!
DeleteSince I live 2 hrs away from JoAnn's, I don't get there very often.....probably a good thing!!! Eeek! But between the one I usually go to and one in Kennewick, Washington that I visit when we are over there, I manage to get some pretty good deals! "Go broke saving money", that's my motto....oh, yah!! Ha.
DeleteI realized I didn't have ANY feather stamps, so that's why I got this for one of my GIU prizes. I sometimes use real feathers on my cards, too, but haven't even done that for quite awhile. Maybe I should do that this autumn.

Janis
Love the layering of the dies, thanks for the closeup!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheryl. I appreciate your feedback on the closeup. I almost always include an angled or closeup shot on my posts, as it helps *me* see what *I* made......not to mention anyone else! Ha! I appreciate your visit!!
