Hi, Friends.....

Welcome, Everyone!!!  I am so glad you are here to join in the DAY 1 festivities of the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop!!  Each day I will be posting fun things to see and do and win!

So how are you all doing?  I don't know about you, but I am just glad to be able to hostess our Cat Lovers Hop again this year.  As you might have seen on my blog already, I got hit with Covid during September and lost pretty much the entire month!!!  Ugh.  I am fine and thankfully none of our family had to go to the hospital.  But it sure did impact my Cat Hop preparations!

Since then I have been running around like a head with its chicken cut off trying to get everything done and arranged.....taking care of sponsor questions and attending to multitudes of details about this and that.  This cartoon sums it up:

Fortunately, I have received several offers of help that I gladly accepted.  The following Helpful Hoppers truly have saved this year's Hop and I am so grateful for their support and encouragement:  Karen Ladd, Christi Conley, Alex Trofimov, and NanaConnie, along with several others who expressed concern and sent well wishes while I was sick.  THANK YOU, my dear Hop Family, for coming through for us all.  ❤❤❤

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are new to our Hops, you might wonder what these Daily Posts are all about.
  So be sure to check each day's post!
2.  Featured Sponsors for that day with the awesome prizes they are offering.  My thanks to all these fabulous companies and individuals who provide photos and graphics....as well as very generous prizes!
You also will find Bonus Links to special Cat Hop blog events, sales, challenges, etc the sponsors are hosting during the week.  Sometimes I will feature a special Guest Designer from sponsor Design Teams or my Helpful Hoppers to showcase sponsor products.
3.  Daily Games:
I encourage ALL Hoppers to join in these special games by answering each day's icebreaker question or activity.  There are prizes sponsored by Ike's Art and guest designers from my Helpful Hoppers.  There is a link-up for those who want to in the drawing for one of the prizes, but you don't have to link up to join in the fun games.  PLEASE participate even if you don't use digital images.  This is one of the ways we get to know each other!!!
Just a reminder.....You must SIGN IN HERE to be eligible for prizes. Also, LINK UP ALL PROJECTS ON THE MAIN HOP PAGE by 11:55 pm Pacific, Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.  I have my 2021 Cat Lovers Hop Guidelines and FAQs in a handy tab just under my header at the top of each page.
DAY 1 GAME: Kitty Roll Call and In Memoriam :(
As usual, our Day 1 Game is Kitty Roll Call where we share with each other the names of each of the cats that call your home (or your back porch) their own....even if it is just a home away from home.  During Kitty Roll Call, you can tell us a little about your cats and you also may add to the roll call any that you have lost since last Cat Lovers Hop.  :( :( :(  Some of you might not have any kitties at home anymore, but please tell us about cats you have had in the past.
I will start.......
Here are my kitties:
1. Jetta - Jetta is my most senior cat, age 18. She is black with one adorable white whisker. That whisker has only turned white as she became advanced in age and her black coat became flecked with white. For years, she used to travel the half-mile across coyote-filled pastures to our old house, but finally retired here during the 2017 Cat Hop...much to our relief!  Jetta is in remarkably good health for her age.  She is mostly deaf and doesn't see as well as she used to, but her daily thyroid meds, vitamins, and joint supplements keep her looking and feeling amazing well for as old as she is.  She is a round little muffin of a cat and is most definitely Queen of the Roost inside the house!
 2. Andromeda - Our sweet little Night Sky Kitten, age 9, with her unimaginably soft, solid black coat. She is outside only, and dearly loves, loves, loves to be petted whenever we step outside.  Such a sweet baby who diligently searches for any exposed skin on your neck or arm to lick when being held......infantile nursing instinct even though she is all grown up!!  lol...
3. Marshmallow - Since losing his sister, Scamper -the Queen of the Back Porch, last year, Marshy is the new King of Beasts out there.  Quite a lofty title for this big soft clump of something sweet.  This formerly timid, very simple soul with a long coat and magnificent tail has turned into a bully in his advancing age of 15 years.  Not taking guff from anyone...anymore!! Ha.  Marshy has had some interesting disputes with our new resident tom, Oreo...more about him later!  But they seem to have come to some understanding and Marshmallow is the Reigning Monarch.....with his best buddy, Alexander, as his Court Jester.  They are still so adorable together!!
4. Ophelia - Our big boy cat with the girl name....long story that I have detailed several times in past Cat Hops. lol.... That whole thing is particularly embarrassing since my hubby is a veterinarian!! Ha. Now age 11, Ophelia is a big lazy neutered male whom we affectionately call "Oaf-elia" or Oaf-Cat. In the winter, he gets fat and becomes our "Loaf-elia" or Loaf-Cat. :)   He and the new resident tom, Oreo, have shouting matches out in the yard.  I call them the "Oh-Boys!"  And Oh, Boy...do they get going at each other sometimes!!  Poor Ophelia has already had more than one abscess resulting from the altercations.  We really need to have Vet Hubby neuter Mr. Oreo!!  Fortunately, they seem to be getting along better lately and hopefully will come to a peaceable understanding before long.
5. Whiskers - Whisk-Whisk is a clownish Black and White Tuxedo kitty, the sister and littermate of Ophelia...so, also, age 11.  Since we sadly lost our Perdita this year, we only had 2 or sometimes 3 kitties in the house....so few that it seemed like no kitties at all!!   So I started letting Whiskers in the house this fall.....SHE LOVES THAT!!!  She had been one to sneak in occasionally, anyway, so I knew she would be interested.  She's opinionated and perky and loves to snuggle on the bed at night. She's indoor-outdoor so she still keeps her mad skillz as a great huntress sharp when she is not in the house.   She has a secret way of gaining entrance into the chicken yard (even when it is closed up at night) that none of us can figure out....and, fortunately, that the coons have not discovered yet!  I imagine the mice that are active in the chicken house after dark are rejoicing that she is usually sleeping on my bed at night!!
 6. Mistopheles - (Our 2021 Cat Lovers Hop Badge Kitty) Started as a part-time tom who terrorized our kitties.  Then we caught him and neutered him which brought about the desired changes.  (Amazing what a difference not having "Naughty Boy Juice" circulating around in a cat's bloodstream accomplishes!!)  Now he is ours and only holds a somewhat weak vendetta against a couple of the other cats.  He's long-haired and solid black. He is so very sweet with us and so drooly when you pet him.....ick! :)  He is our "Stop, Drop, and Roll" cat.....following us all around outside and hoping we will pause and pet his big round tummy as he drops to the ground and rolls around near us to get our attention.
7. Othello - Ginormous part-Siamese solid black cat, age 11, that nearly suffocates you when he drapes himself across your neck for a nap. Easily weighs over 20 lbs. He's our Oaf-Fellow!  He's the new Guardian of the Baby since we lost our poor Perdita.
8. Alexander - Started as a part-time tom but now is neutered and inseparable with his best buddy, Marshmallow. Alexander is still a little nervous about eyes looking at him, but will come over to me to be petted most anytime I call to him. Loves his tummy rubbed when I find him in a nest on the back porch. He's still a little too nervous to enjoy being held, but I can pick him up a lot more than I could even a year ago.
9. Brian - Beautiful classic brown tabby patterned male, age 7. Littermates with Caspian and Judith....very, very sweet.
10. Caspian - A gentleman kitty with a gentle personality. He is littermates with Brian and Judith.....so, also, age 7.  Caspian loves to come in the house but never wants to stay in for long.
11. Judith - Judith, also age 7, is our very, very naughty wanderer. When the weather is decent, she shows up every 3 or 4 weeks (or even months!) for a day or two or three...then she is off again. A storm or cold weather will usually bring her home again...for a time.  This summer she seemed to come home more often than she has in the past, so I am hopeful that this wandering will gradually occur less and less often.  We have several new neighbors who are doing construction in our neighborhood so I am hoping that gives us even more of a buffer zone against predators.  But there are still way too many coyotes around here for adventuring to be a good lifestyle choice for a kitty. :(
12. Skippyjon - Age 5.  Siamese-X and still a character! Poor Skippy can only be inside with careful supervision, but he is well behaved in my son's room so he often gets to sleep there at night.....which he loves!!
13. Perdita - (In Memoriam)  We lost our dear Perdita in June this year.  She was our son's cat....an exotic, lovely Siamese.  My son saw an ad in the paper advertising a Free Siamese.  They had obtained her from someone else and the details of her past were very sketchy.  She had a lot of digestive problems and we think they probably got rid of her because of her vomiting.  With special dietary supplements and feeding her brand of cat food to her on demand (which was often!) she improved somewhat under my vet hubby's care, but she never really was well.  When my grandson was born last October, Perdita assumed the role of Guardian of The Baby.  She diligently watched over him from the top of the couch or some other safe but nearby place.  When he whimpered, she was visibly upset.  She passed on the Guardian role to Othello shortly before she died and he has now grudgingly taken up post near the baby .....only swatting (without claws) when Miles pulls his tail or grabs his ears.  We miss beautiful Perdita who graced our home for 4 years.  We are honored and privileged to have given her a loving, understanding home for her last difficult years.  RIP Sweet "Girl Cat".  💔
14. Lyman - (On-Again, Off-Again Visitor) - Lyman still shows up under the cover of darkness every so often.  He's a beautiful ginger tomcat (prob related somehow to Alexander!!) who obviously had a current or former home.  He was nervous, but warmed up to us easily.  Vet hubby neutered him in short order and we hoped he would stick around.....such a lovely cat....but alas he did not.  He probably went back to his real home.....and his true owners likely never even realized he had been neutered!  They prob just thought that "Pumpkin" (or whatever they call him) seemed to stay home more for some odd reason!!!  Ha.
15. Archibald - (Absent Visitor) - Archie is a creamy orange tomcat who found our cat food last fall.  He was here often through the winter, but we haven't seen him now for months.  We won his trust enough that he would let us pet him quite often.  We really hoped he would make his home here with us because he was such a nice kitty.  Maybe he found a different home...or his original home.  Maybe he got neutered and doesn't roam anymore.  We hope nothing happened to him.  If he doesn't have a loving home elsewhere, we have hopes that this winter when the weather is cold he might find his way back over to our porch.
16. Tommy - (Absent Visitor) - We have not seen this strapping young tom who had found our cat food trays last fall.  He is a gorgeous brown tabby who definitely knows he doesn't live here, but who can't resist a free meal that he doesn't have to hunt himself.  He did not mix well with our other cats and I think he was probably run off to take up residence somewhere else.
17. Oreo - (New addition!)  Mr. Oreo is our new Resident Tom.....a muscular black and white spotted guy...prob technically a tuxedo, although there is an awful lot of white.  (I keep asking Vet Hubby to neuter him but there are always too many other things on his list to get done!)  He is a one-eyed kitty who actually has been living at the old house we lived in 9 years ago, which is a half-mile over coyote territory.  Some brand-new residents of that house happened to mention they were missing a one-eyed barn cat (one that had "come with the house") and we just so happened to have a one-eyed visitor.  They tried unsuccessfully to get him back home, but their own pet cats kept running him off.  So now he is ours, with the new people's blessing.  He's such a sweetheart.  He's been here several months now.....he doesn't seem to spray and he gets along with the other cats mostly pretty well....so we are very glad to welcome him into our family and cat tribe.
Last Hop I had 19 kitties on my roster, including 3 visitors and 3 in memoriam.  So I guess this year with losing one (Perdita), and subtracting two absent visitors (Archibald and Tommy), and adding one new Resident Tom (Oreo), that keeps us at 13 that are really ours plus 1 visitor (Lyman).....so 14-ish cats for now.
This is how to play the Daily Game to be eligible for the prize drawing:
1.  Make sure you have SIGNED IN HERE to be eligible for prizes.
2. Leave a comment giving us your Kitty Roll Call and anything you want to tell us about them. I never get tired of reading about everyone's cats!!!
3. After you finish your Kitty Roll Call comment: if you want to be in the drawing for the prize, fill out your (own) name in the link up below. This doesn't have any thumbnails so no photo needed! You don't even need a blog!!!  This is for everyone!!!
NOTE: The Daily Game link ups will be open the entire duration of the Hop, including the extra days for comments. Entries need to be in by 11:59 pm Pacific, Wednesday Nov. 3, 2021 to be eligible for the daily prize. So you have more than just today to comment and link up. I realize that not everyone has access to a printer or likes to use digis, so I am still keeping the link up gadget to make sure the digi prizes go to winners who can use them. But I am hoping EVERYONE will participate in answering the questions whether they are putting their name in for the prize or not.
Okay, now it is your turn!!
REMEMBER: Link your cat-themed projects over on the Main Hop Page. (Please use #2021CatLoversHop on social media!!) This link-up below is just to enter the drawing for the Daily Game after you have commented with your Kitty Roll Call. Thanks!!!
Thank you sooooooooooo much for being a part of the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop. Let the kitty fun BEGIN!!!
🖤
**************************************************
How to join in the 2021 CAT LOVERS HOP:
**************************************************
There are three ways to get a chance to win a randomly-drawn prize from our awesome sponsors:  linking up a cat project, commenting on linked-up projects, and participating in the Daily Games.
1. LINKING UP A CAT PROJECT: The Cat Lovers Hop is open world-wide....so please SIGN IN, and then link up a cat-themed project right here at the bottom of THIS post by 11:55 pm Pacific, Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.
There is a limit of 5 projects for the week.
I hated to have to limit the number of entries, but it was getting a little bit unwieldy for us to get around to every entry to leave meaningful comments.  So last year I set a limit of 5 and it seemed to be well-received.  So we will continue that this year. Thank you for understanding!
***Please use #2021CatLoversHop on social media platforms (e.g. FB, IG, etc.) and allow PUBLIC (or UNLIMITED or ALL) permissions to view...not just FRIENDS...or most of us won't be able to see or to comment on your project!***
You may enter your project in as many other challenges as you wish. See my 2021 Cat Lovers Hop Guidelines and FAQs HERE to see what qualifies as a cat-themed project, so you don't miss out on being eligible for the prizes!! Around half the prizes will be randomly drawn from projects linked on this page. Be sure to include my 2021 Cat Lovers Hop Badge in your post.
2. COMMENTING ON LINKED-UP PROJECTS:  Leave a comment on any or all of the cat projects from the link up. The more comments you leave, the better your chances of winning!
NEW THIS YEAR:  Extra days for commenting!!!
Hi, Friends.....
I'm taking another little time out from my Cat Hop prep to share an entry for the Let's Squash It! Challenge which is always all about dry embossing with a twist.  This time Jo and Gail, the dynamic duo of dry embossing, are asking for Double Embossing.
Well....well....well....like a dragon 🐲🐲🐲 lured away from her cave filled with gold 💰💰💰 at the prospect of accumulating a little bit more, I couldn't resist!!   I happen to LOVE double embossing. I think of it as one of my signature techniques and use it often with my usual clean and layered style.
Things are way too crazy this week to make anything new, but I do have a couple of cards that I made a while back using this technique on the background.  LOVE!!
I started with a layered background made with scraps of several different coordinated patterned papers.  I dry embossed it and then applied Versamark ink with a brayer over the raised parts.  I sprinkled on embossing powder and zapped it with my heat gun.  I repeated the Versamark ink and embossing powder 2-3 times to get really nice definition on my pattern.  I LOVE it!!   Then I added my other card elements as desired.
Bonus:  This technique of double embossing is a fabulous way to use up some of that ancient embossing powder that we all have sitting around in our caves, er, I mean our stashes!!!  ❤
Products used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Taylored Expressions - Twirls and Swirls embossing folder (retired)\
Ranger - Embossing Powder in Silver
Uptown Accessories - Embossing Powder in Antique Gold  (very ancient and retired)
Great Impressions - Hello! stamp
PaperTrey Ink - Fillable Frames #5 mini stamp set
Chipboard funky flowers
Patterned Paper scraps from stash
Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I hope you enjoyed seeing my cards.  I also hope you will join us for the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop coming up all next week right here on my blog.  It's going to be great!!!
Hi, Friends.....
I rarely have time in October to post cards I've made because I am so busy with Cat Lovers Hop preparations.   I noticed, though, that Mrs. A had a lovely color palette on her current Butterfly Challenge post and I happened to have a card that fit that I made several months ago and never got blogged.  (I am soooooooo bad about not getting my cards blogged.  I have a zillion of them in drafts and never quite have the energy to actually get them posted.  Am I the only one like that???)
Take a look at the Butterfly Wheel that Mrs. A has for us this time.  So much pretty lavender and pink!!  ❤
She also mentions two patterned papers as one of the element options. I have a scrap background framing my card that might have two patterned papers in it, but it is mostly covered up and I can only see one patterned paper in it for sure, so I won't play with that element this time....just the colors.
My card features a super-fun Laurel Burch cat image stamped on a watercolor background I made.  I have stacks of these backgrounds and this is one of my favorite things to do lately.  Love how you can see a bit of the background showing through the images.
Supplies used include:
Stampendous - Laurel Burch Feline Friends Like You stamp
Versafine ink in Smokey Gray
W&W Katharine
Scrap background
Mixed Media paper
Spectrum Noir markers
Wink of Stella pen
Thank you for stopping by today to take a look at my card.  I hope you will join in my Cat Lovers Hop festivities that I mention at the top of this post.  It's not too early to get started on your projects!!
Janis
Handy List of 2021 Cat Lovers Hop Links
SIGN IN for the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop (REQUIRED to be eligible for PRIZES)
Hi, Friends and Cat Lovers.....
Are you all excited for the 2021 Cat Lovers Hop????  I sure am!  This is our 7th year together....AMAZING!!!  A few years ago, I introduced this SIGN IN to make my bookkeeping easier when I am randomly drawing the names for prizes for the Cat Lovers Hop. It helped me a lot and so I am continuing it this year.
Since I want half of the prizes to go to commenters and half to project entry participants, I am asking everyone who wants to participate and be eligible for prizes to please sign in here. That way when people comment on your projects who are just followers of your blog and not really intending to be part of the hop they won't end up with a wonderful cat stamp set that they might not even want!!
Remember: YOU MUST SIGN IN HERE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES!!!!!
Also, some of our sponsors are only able to mail their prizes to USA addresses, so I need to know what country you live in. Besides, it's fun to see where everyone lives. :) Also, please leave me your email address (in code is fine) so I can easily get a hold of you if you are a lucky winner.  In the past, I've had to track one or two people down each year and sometimes they didn't even know they were part of a Cat Lovers Hop!! I want these prizes going to people who really are a part of our hop.
One other thing, some of our sponsors are offering digital images as prizes. I realize that not everyone uses digis or has a working printer and so might not really want one of them as a prize. This is your opportunity to let me know..."no digis please!", if you do not want to be considered for those prizes.
Included in the sign-in are a couple of prize opportunities from our fabulous sponsors that I think you are going to love. If this is your first year ever participating in the Cat Lovers Hop, please mention that in the comments, too. One of the prizes will go to a lucky randomly drawn first-time participant. Have you participated EACH year of the hop (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and this year 2021)??? One of the prizes will go to a lucky participant that has been with us from the beginning and not missed a year!
(You long-haulers deserve a medal for putting up with me this many years!!!  ❤ )
 Also.....in the past I have sometimes been confused by alternate usernames on different platforms for posting, linking, commenting, etc.  Many of us (including myself!) use two or more different monikers and most of the time I know who you are.  There are a few of you, though, who confound me each year!  (Hahaha....not too difficult to do!!)  Could you please list all your common usernames in the comments, too, to assist me when I am cross-eyed from running Random.org and making sure I have the right person from the right country getting the right prize?  THANKS!!
One more thing......I forgot to put this in when I first made this post, but Leigh S-B Designs, one of our wonderful sponsors, would like me to ask how many of you have an electronic die-cutting machine.  So if you would also answer that question, it would be very helpful for her.  Thank you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

TO SIGN IN (now through 11:59 pm Pacific, Wednesday Nov. 3, 2021, which is the last day for comments.).... Please leave comment below with the following info:
1. What country you live in.
2. Your email address (in code is fine).
3. "Digis okay" or "No digis, please".
4. Tell me if this is your FIRST YEAR participating or if you have PARTICIPATED EACH YEAR without missing. (Commenting and/or linking up a project counts as participating!! So even if you were not able to make a project, but did hop around and leave some comments here or on the projects EACH YEAR...that counts!!)
5. Alternate usernames on different platforms so I know who you are if you are a random winner there.(e.g. Janis, Janis in ID, J.Woolbright)
6.  Do you have an electronic die-cutting machine?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember: YOU MUST SIGN IN HERE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES!!!!!
Thank you for helping out with this sign-in procedure. I appreciate your patience and understanding.  Let's make this 7th Cat Lovers Hop the best ever!!
