Hi, Friends......
I am back with another card for the MFP Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge of making a Masculine card with Navy Blue. I used the same winter scene image from the MFP What a Fox stamp set, stamped and heat embossed on watercolor paper. (Be sure to see the fox!) This time I went monochromatic and capitalized on the winter look by dry embossing a white background. I just got this Diagonal Stripe Darice embossing folder and I love it! It works like a dream on my favorite heavy-weight cardstock. (More about that later.....)
In keeping with a simpler and less-adorned style for the masculine theme, I relied on a few lengths of thrift store ribbon laid along the lines of embossing for dressing up this card a bit. Simple, but I like the look.

Terrific Product Alert: Core'dinations Heavy Weight white cardstock. I can't remember exactly why I bought this a while back.....maybe it actually was for dry embossing....not sure. But it is FANTASTIC for precisely that. Sometimes my embossing folders nearly cut through lighter-weight cardstock. This product is a very robust 110 lb weight and bright white. But here's the weird thing: my usual white cardstock says it is 110 lb. weight, too. So why is this Core'dinations product so much thicker?????? I have no idea, but it certainly is!! They might be the same weight, but this is THE ONE for dry embossing! I am so glad I snagged a package when it was half-price at JoAnn's. It is now on my list of card-making basics. (Did I mention it is 40% off at JoAnn.com right now? Not as good as half-price, but very decent.)

ReplyDeleteThat cat is kind of distracting, but I really like it. My granddaughter is always wanting to see the kitty on my blog that is "pinking" out at her! To a 4 yr old girl, I guess everything is "pink". :)

Another really amazing card! I love this white on white look with the navy stamping and matting. Those strips of ribbon are just the perfect accents...not too much, not too little. This would make a fabulous holiday or winter card!

Thanks for commenting on the ribbons. I really liked how they fit right against the ribs of the embossing. They seemed to add just the right amount of something extra the card needed to break up all that white!! :) I, too, thought this would make a fine Christmas card.

Speaking of different card stock weights, I recently read an online article about the different card stock designations and it said that the same weight doesn't necessarily translate into the same thickness. That's why you can have two different card stocks that are the same weight, but that are not equivalent in thickness. All confusing but I've experienced this myself. I'll have to keep my eye out for Core-dinations heavy weight white now that you've give it such a great review!
ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting!! I guess it makes perfect sense that the materials might be different or not pressed as densely in some papers than in others. It just seemed weird to me to see this one so much thicker and to have such drastically different performance and yet be of the same weight. Thanks for the info!!!
