Bright Flowers with Add a Little Dazzle

"If a fish is the movement of water embodied, given shape, then a cat is a diagram and pattern of subtle air."
                                                                          ---------------Doris Lessing

Hi, Friends........

I am back with my second post of the evening with another entry in this week's Unity Friends with Flair.  I used the same amazing color palette from Waffle Flower Photo Inspiration Challenge:

I also used the same flower stamps from the Unity - Celebrate in Style itty bitty set, but I didn't use the sentiment this time.  I stamped them with Memento - London Fog ink and colored them with some super-bright Spectrum Noir markers.  LOVE!  I covered them with Glossy Accents to add to the fun.

I made my background by selecting some scraps in the correct colors and arranging them in a blocky pattern, inking the edges with Distress Ink - Fired Brick.  I LOVE the riot of colors and patterns!!  And love that I was able to use scraps!!!  :)  You can see the shine from the Glossy Accents and the sparkly papers in the photo below.

I embellished my card with a shiny flower I die cut from Add a Little Dazzle pink and white craft metal sheets, using my Spellbinders Heartfelt Creations - Majestic Blooms die set.  I wanted the blossom to match my palette a little closer, so I colored the innermost craft metal layer with one of the Spectrum Noir markers that I used on my image.  I used the same marker to ink around the cut edges of the petals on the pink layer.

Do you like how this one turned out???  Which of the two do you like better?  I love these super-fun and happy colors and images!!!

Thanks so much for your visit and each of your lovely comments.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

                                                                              -------------------Ernest Hemingway

Hi, Friends......

I have two cards to share today for Friends with Flair.  I was going to combine them onto the same post because I used the same stamp for both of them, but they ended up quite different from each other.....so I am giving them each a post of their own.  :)

I pulled out my Unity - Celebrate in Style Itty Bitty set and it immediately transported me back into the 70s....when I would draw loopy flowers in all sorts of bright colors all over my school papers and notebooks....with Flair pens. (Who out there will own up to remembering the original Flairs??? :) I don't care what papercrafters nowadays think flair refers to, in my book a Flair is a felt-tipped pen! Ha.)

This stamp set is just way too much fun.  And then....when I teamed it up with the fabulous color palette from the current Waffle Flower Challenge, I knew I had to go retro!!!!  Here's the palette I used:

I stamped the image and sentiment on cardstock with Memento - Tuxedo Black and watercolored the flowers with my waterbrush and Distress Inks - Fired Brick, Ripe Persimmon, Picked Raspberry.

I finished the card with a few little sequins and matted the focal panel with pink and mounted it on a white card base.

I really love how this card turned out.  The colors and flowers make me so happy!!!  Hope you like it, too!!!

Baby Card with Add a Little Dazzle

"A kitten with a leaf to chase
Exhibits beauty, form, and grace."

                                                                       -----------------Salvatore Marsiglia
Hi, Friends......

I am here with a fun little baby card I made for a friend's grandbaby.  For my background, I wanted a subtle baby quilt look, so I glued strips of two patterned papers on some cardstock and then cut strips of them horizontally.  By offsetting the patterns, it gave me the quilt square look I wanted.

I employed my double embossing technique over the layered background by using my Darice - Interlocking Circles folder, then sponging lightly with Versamark, and then heat embossing with white powder.  Thank you to Karen Ladd who named that technique for me...double embossing.  I think it makes my background look even more like a quilt.  What do you think?

I wanted to personalize this card with the baby's name, so I pulled out some ancient alpha stamps.  I stamped her name with Distress Ink-Worn Lipstick and heat embossed with clear powder directly onto some hearts I had punched out of Add a Little Dazzle white craft metal.  Fun!!!

The white metal has almost a blue tone to it, so I chose white, pink, and blue Prima flowers.  To tone the pink and blue down a little bit, I "painted" them with a bit of water and Perfect Pearls (in the original Perfect Pearl color!)A sweet bit of pink and white ribbon and another flower finished everything up.

Hope you like my card.  It was a lot of fun using my Add a Little Dazzle craft metal.  I need to use it more often!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.  I appreciate each and every comment!!!  Have a very lovely mid-week!!!

White on White

Somehow this seemed right for a white on white post.

Hello, Friends......

I am intrigued with the "Only White" challenge over at MFP Speedy Fox & Friends.  I am just playing along for fun and not for a prize over there, but still wanted to try my first ever white on white card.

I dry embossed some extra thick white cardstock with my Darice "Flowers and Vines Pattern" folder.  Then, I brayered some Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue (green and white bottle) over the raised pattern and brushed on some Perfect Pearls in the "Perfect Pearl" color. (lol...Can't they just say original or something?)

I prepared my background with a couple of kinds of thrift store lace.  I used my Xyron 3" sticker maker to adhere the wide pieces and Tombow glue for the center strip.  I had been looking for a chance to use this pretty lace!!!  :)  (More somehow, eventually stash stuff!!  hehehee!)

Using a stencil, I traced a heart on the back and cut the shape out with scissors.  I filled my shaker compartment with iridescent sequins (they refract with a pinkish color, but are actually white), glitter, and seed beads.  So pretty!!!

I finished up the card with the last two gorgeous Pink Paislee butterflies that I had left from a prize.  I had been hoarding them, but this seemed the right card for them!  Yay....one supply used up!  One hundred million to go.....  ;)

I had a lot of fun making this "Only White" card and I really love how it turned out.  I'll keep it on hand for a wedding card.    Tell me what you think of it in the comments and I will smile all day long!!!!

Have a lovely day!!

Waffle Flower Challenge - 2 Thank You So Much

"Owning a cat is a lot like being an American tourist in a fancy French restaurant -- you will be overcharged, you will likely be insulted, but, to you, it's worth it."

Hi, Friends......

I am back with my second entry into the super-fun challenge from Waffle Flower.

This time, my card is more like my normal style.  I used elements from my DCWV - Solstice stack and dry embossed the layered piece with my Darice Checkered folder.

I love this layered embossing technique!!  You can see the detail better in the photos below.

I layered some lovely Prima flowers in the palette colors for pretty embellishments.

My cute little sentiment is from Lil Inker - Rainbows and Clouds Sentiments.  I use this set a lot!!!  I stamped it in Distress Ink - Chipped Sapphire.

I mounted my card front on a simple white card base and called it good.  Since I already had the background prepared ahead of time as a "card starter", this little project went together very quickly (for me!).

I want to thank Nina at Waffle Flower for the lovely challenge that inspired me to enter.  And....I want to thank each of you for stopping by and leaving all your encouraging comments.  You are the best!!

Waffle Flower Challenge - 1 Hello, Friend

"Cats seem to go on the principle that it never does any harm to ask for what you want."
                                                                        ---------------Joseph Wood Krutch

Hi, Friends.....

I am here with the first of two cards that I made for a fabulous challenge from Waffle Flower.

Here's the photo inspiration.  Isn't that an awesome color palette???  I was just fascinated with these deep rich colors.  They are so different from what I usually use that I couldn't resist giving them a try!

My card is a big departure from my regular style of layers of papers and lots of embossing.  Awhile back, I found two plastic French curve tools for a dime a piece at our local thrift store.  I couldn't pass them up because I knew I could use them somehow, eventually.  Ha! (The "somehow, eventually" justification is why my stash is overflowing!!!)

The other day, I had this idea to use one of these tools to draw a graceful curve across a card front and informally stamp small images following the curve.  When I saw the interesting palette for this challenge, I knew I wanted to give this idea a try using these colors.

I knew I wanted to use a solid heart as one of the little images, but looked in my stash and couldn't find a suitable stamp.  I did have one from a cheapo thrift store grab bag with a circle around the heart, though.  So, throwing caution to the wind, I carved off the circle with my utility knife and had the heart I wanted.

A previous owner apparently stamped this with some kind of paint that left a wavy residue and wouldn't wash off.  I didn't realize that it would show up when I used it, but it does.....and I totally love the texture it adds!!!  In the photo below, you might notice that during my carving, I accidentally took a small chunk out of the heart...OOPS!  But, you know what?  I LOVE how that looks, too.  :)

My other little images are from a discontinued Clear Dollar Stamps set called Blooming Bouquet.  To go with my informal look, I used Distress Inks for stamping:  Aged Mahogany, Walnut Stain, Chipped Sapphire, and Stormy Sky.  The lovely scripty sentiment is from Inky Antics - Script Sentiments #1 that I also stamped in Aged Mahogany.  I wanted to keep the clean look to this card, so I made a very narrow mat with some deep blue Core'dinations cardstock.

So what do you think???  Is this a style I should try more often?  I really love the graceful and casual look of the little images stamped on the curve.  It almost might make a CAS girl out of me....at least some of the time!  :)

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I have another card for this same Waffle Flower challenge, so I will see you soon!  Have a lovely rest of the weekend!!!

Hoo Hoo...Will You Be My Valentine???

"Those who'll play with cats must expect to be scratched."
                                                                  --------------Miguel de Cervantes

Hi, Friends.....

I'm here with my second post of the day.  This is a fun little Valentine I made for my hubby.  He never looks at my blog, so he'll never know!  Ha!!  :)

I used the Unity Monthly "Be Inspired" Challenge colors for this.  Aren't these just delicious????  I love the twilight look of this combination and thought it would work well for a masculine Valentine.  What do you think???

First, I made my twilight woods background.  I dry embossed some extra thick white cardstock with my Darice - Birch Tree folder.  Then I employed my favorite technique of heat embossing the daylights out of everything with tons of different powders.

I Versamarked it over and over....sometimes with and sometimes without my brayer.....and sprinkled and zapped layer after layer of purple, deep blue, pink, and white embossing powders.  YUM!!!  After I got the effect I wanted, I sponged Distress Ink - Seedless Preserves all over it and gently wiped the excess off the embossed areas with a baby wipe.  I totally am a mad chemist when it comes to embossing powders!!!!  Bwaaaaahahahahaha!!!!!  :)

Hubby and I both love owls and this is not the first owl card I have made for him and posted.  Here's one I made a while back.  For today's card, I used a cute little Unity owl I got in a grab bag.  I wanted to put her on a stump or a limb or something, so I snagged a stamp from my Lawn Fawn - Into the Woods set.  I heat embossed (same purple and blue EPs used in background) and fussy cut both images from scraps and snippets of white cardstock.

To make it look like she actually was perched there, I cut the image below her tummy and put her tail behind the stump and her body in front.  Do you like how it turned out?  I think it looks pretty good.

Now, since it is a Valentine, it must have hearts, right?  I took some of the fun Scrapbook-Adhesive adhesive foam hearts and covered them in some blue glitter.  This was the first time I had ever tried doing that.  I was surprised how firmly I had to press the hearts down into the glitter to get good coverage.  But I love how they look on the card.

Finally, everything got mounted on some Core'dinations blue cardstock and then put on a white card baseI just love how it all turned out.  I think hubby will like it, too.  :)

Thanks so much for stopping by to look at my projects.  I love all your comments.  If you feel so inclined, I would love for you to become a follower, also.  It is a tremendous encouragement to me to see my little sidebar thingy fill up with your sweet portraits!!  :)

Have a lovely weekend!!!

You are Beautiful, Valentine - Friends with Flair

                                                                                ------------Jean Burden

Hi, Friends......

I'm here with a valentine for my first of two posts for today, both for Unity - Friends with Flair.  This one also will go in the MFP - Speedy Fox & Friends - Make a Rainbow challenge.

I made my sparkly heart by cutting a heart-shaped piece from an Adhesive Sheet from Scrapbook-Adhesives. I have only used this one time before (a long time ago) and I did not use it the right way this time.......but it worked!  I peeled the protective waxed layer off the heart shape and sprinkled on my sequins in colored bands.

You'd think with this many colors of sequins, I'd have all the rainbow colors....but I didn't have the right color of orange.  So I chose my orangest gold ones and colored them with an orange Sharpie marker!!!

They didn't turn out perfect....and these particular sequins were not even the same size as my others....but I think it's okay.  You can see them better in this close-up.

You also can see that I filled in the gaps with glitter glue.

This is not my entire collection of glitter glue, but again I didn't have any orange!!!  (What is with not having any orange????)  I did have an orangey-gold, though, so I used it.

The glitter glue actually accomplished two purposes.  Since I merely poured my sequins out into bands and loosely arranged the errant ones, some of the discs were only contacting the adhesive by one edge.  They weren't completely fastened down and were "floppy".  By filling in with glitter glue, the "white" areas got covered and the loose sequins were secured.  Plus, it added extra sparkle!  I was delighted with how well the glitter glue matched all the other colors.  :)  (Note to self:  look for orange sequins and orange glitter glue!  Prob won't find any until autumn, now...)

For my background, I inked the edges of some kraft with Distress Ink - Walnut Stain and dry embossed with my Darice - Interlocking Circles folder.  Then I decided I wanted some gold on it, so I brayered Versamark lightly over the pattern and sprinkled with gold embossing powder.  Well, it stuck to the edges where the DI was still slightly damp.  However, since I didn't feel like doing the whole background over again I like gold on edges, I went ahead and zapped it with my heat gun.  :)  You can still see a bit of the inking through the gold.

I attached my heart onto the kraft background with Beacon 3 in 1, since I hadn't used the the Adhesive Sheet the right way and it was impossible to remove the paper backing to stick it on directly.  Still not quite sure what I should have done there! (shrug...)  We crafters have to be crafty about fixing our mistakes, sometimes.....at least I do!  Ha!!

I stamped and heat embossed my Unity sentiment in white on some plain kraft and mounted it on the card front.  I considered matting it with red, but didn't want to draw any attention away from the sparkly heart.  I put the whole card front on a red card base.  I love how it turned out.

That's all for this post.....but hang on to your bonnet, Lizzie, because I have another Friends with Flair post coming up later!  See you then......

Rainbow - Happy Birthday

"After scolding one's cat, one looks into its face and is seized by the ugly suspicion that it understood every word.  And has filed it for reference."

Hi, Friends......

I am back with another card for the MFP Speedy Fox and Friends "Make a Rainbow" challenge.  This time I pulled out my Gelatos and colored on a white premade DCWV embossed card.  After coloring the stripes, I took a tissue and rubbed off the excess which revealed the embossed pattern.

I kept the rest of the card simple so the background would not be obscured.  A simple Serendipity die cut butterfly and an unadorned Happy Birthday sentiment (from MFP - What a Fox) stamped in Distress Ink - Ripe Persimmon was all it needed.  I love the orange butterfly with the bright rainbow colors!!  Hope you like it, too.

Thanks for visiting and for all your comments.  They are very much appreciated!!!  Have a lovely day.

Rainbow Get Well Soon

"The trouble with cats is that they've got no tact."
                                       ------------- P. G. Wodehouse
(Anybody else like Jeeves & Wooster???)

Hi, Friends.......

I am here today with a cheery little get well card.  I made this for the MFP Speedy Fox and Friends "Make a Rainbow" Challenge
I was inspired by a card I saw recently that had a doily for a sunrise.  Unfortunately, I didn't pin the card and I don't remember whose it was.  ARRRRRGH!!!  If any of you happen to know the one I am thinking of, please leave me a note in the comments because it was a truly wonderful card and I would love to recognize the artist.

For my rainbow, I followed the natural arc of my doily and masked off each band of color using my Kiwi Lane Designs Rings - 2 template.  I started with my red band and heat embossed with clear powder before progressing to the next color.  I used Distress Inks - Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Seedless Preserves.

The little clouds at the ends of the rainbow are from scraps of doily, backed with some of the "center" of the doily.  I sponged Memento - London Fog ink over the little clouds and then Versamarked them and heat embossed with white to bring out the doily detail. You can see them better in the photo below.
My background is blue cardstock that I dry embossed with my brand-new Darice Cloudy Sky folder.  Then I brayered over it with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow! white embossing powder.

My sentiment is from Mark's Finest Papers - Above the Rest stamp set.  I stamped it on a scrap of cardstock in Memento - Tuxedo Black and then fed the ends straight into some decorative corner scissors to give the fancy edge.  I hadn't ever tried doing this on a straight edge before, but it was easy and I like the effect!  The edges are inked with Distress Ink - Salty Ocean.

Hope you like my card.  I am delighted with how it turned out.....one of the few times my mind's concept and the finished result actually match!  Ha!!  Have a wonderful week!!!

Snuggle up for the Season

Such a cool photo!!!

Hi, Friends......

I am here with a fun little card that I desperately *tried* to make CAS, but I'm afraid I just don't have the knack.  (sigh...)  However, I couldn't resist trying to make an entry for CAS-ology this week because the theme was NBUS....and everyone's favorite bloggie funny gal, Darnell, was the guest designer.

I recently received this sweet little Stampendous - Snuggle Season stamp as part of a prize and thought this would be the ideal time to give it a test drive.  I stamped it with Memento - Tuxedo Black ink.

I've got lots of white space on my card which is good for CAS, but I just can't leave well enough alone.  I had to do some dry embossing, add some glitter "snow", and put some rick-rack on for a "horizon", too.  I am hopeless.  Ha!

At least, I tried to keep my coloring simple....so I only used four colors of watercolor pencils and my waterbrush.  Aren't these little nesting dolls an adorable idea for a winter grouping???  I can't remember what you call them....Russian dolls?  There's another name, but it escapes me.  One of you will know and tell me in the comments (I hope).  Anyway, I just love this sweet little image.

That's all for tonight.  Hope your weekend has been wonderful.  Thanks for stopping by to visit!!

Hi, Friends.....

I am back with my second Unity - Friends with Flair card for this week.  I pulled out my Unity Itty Bitty set called Feather Flight.  I had previously cut the feathers apart and for this project used only one of them.

I have a plastic index card file box on my craft table stuffed full of different backgrounds from previous experiments (ahem..).  I pulled this pretty one out that I'd never used from my Whipped Cream technique cards!  (It was supposed to be shaving cream, but I didn't have any, so I improvised with spray whipped cream!!  lol... )

I stamped the feathers with Memento - London Fog, including some second generation ones.  The sentiment is in Memento - Tuxedo Black.   I mounted the front panel onto blue cardstock and then onto white.   Iridescent sequins scattered about were all that was needed to top off the card.  I hope you like it!

I am also playing along in the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge:

Thanks for all your wonderful comments.  Have a lovely weekend!!

Hi, Friends......

I'm here with the first of two Unity - Friends with Flair posts.  This card definitely has a masculine look, but could be for either.  I received this Unity sentiment stamp some time back, and I don't see it in their catalog anymore....although there is one with the words only.  I teamed it up with my Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Big Bang Confetti to enter in their big First Birthday Challenge extravaganza!!

I first sponged a bit of Distress Ink - Mustard Seed onto my cardstock and then stamped my stars in Versamark and heat embossed them in clear.  This gave my stars a slight yellow tinge and added interest to the other Distress Inks I used
(Worn Lipstick, Broken China, Stormy Sky, Salty Ocean, Dusty Concord).

I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock with Distress Ink - Stormy Sky and mounted the panel on Core'dinations navy cardstock and the whole front on to the same color of card base.

I like how my night sky turned out bright in this card, rather than dark.  I love a deep, dark look, but I live in a place with such terrific night skies that sometimes they almost seem bright with stars.  The Milky Way occasionally seems like it floods the sky with so much light that I could almost read by it.  It isn't truly that bright, but it does put out a lot of light! [By the way, are there any other sky buffs that have been watching Comet Lovejoy?  :)]  Anyway, I really love the look of this colorful and bright starry sky.  Hope you do, too!

Thanks for stopping in.  I will have another Unity post later on.  Have a lovely weekend!!!
