A Friendly Hello

Hi, Friends........

I am back with a fun and very simple card I made for the Waffle Flower photo inspiration challenge.  I cannot get enough of this bright and pretty color palette!!!  I've had so much fun playing with them.

For this card, I used my DCWV Fiber stack, which contained just the right colors for this challenge.  Yay!!  I LOVE the texture on this paper....almost like handmade....and it was just jumping up and down begging me to tear out some petals for a cheery flower. I couldn't disappoint it!!  :)  I love how tearing emphasizes the texture even more.  (Sorry my photos are not very good tonight.)

I used my Darice - Flowers and Vines embossing folder to give my red background a casual look with a bit of texture.  A little trick I discovered to keep my embossing folders from chewing up thinner weight cardstock:  put two pieces in the folder at the same time.  Kind of a now and later idea....use one now and have one for later, too.  :)  The pattern will be a wee bit softer and less distinct, but I prefer that over cuts and slices....Yikes!  Give it a try and tell me what you think.

I put my petals up on foam to give a little dimension.  :)  I stamped my sentiment in Memento - London Fog.  Unfortunately, I was dissatisfied with the ink coverage.  There were pale sections on the H and E of the word Hello.

A wooden toothpick came to my rescue.  I touched the tip of the pick to my ink pad and carefully drew in the parts of the letters that needed assistance.  The wood soaks up just the right amount of ink and that sharp point is just the thing for touching up my mistakes!!  :)

I cut the whole front panel a bit narrower than the card back for a bright little white border on that side. I like the effect.

Thanks so much for stopping in.  I am getting things arranged for my combined First Blogoversary and Birthday Giveaway.  Hooray!!!  Hope your weekend has been relaxing.

    1. I don't use tearing very often on my cards......at least, not on purpose!!! Ha. So this was fun. I think I avoid it because I never can get the paper to tear where I want. I was delighted that his pulpy fibery paper tore very easily.

    1. Thank you, Lis!! It was fun trying out the tearing.....since it worked well. Not so much fun when it tears along the grain whether I want it to or not!! Ha.

  7. What a fun and cheerful card and I love the torn fiber paper! I have a Fiber stack from DCWV but mine has only one color...a pale yellow, which isn't nearly as exciting as this deep pink! I really appreciated the tip about using a toothpick and your inkpad to fill in the missing spots in your sentiment...you're a genius!! I usually fill in with a matching marker, but don't always have the correct color marker so this is a tip I'll tuck away for the future.

    1. I have one of those yellow Fiber stacks, too, and I love it for autumn ink+dry embossing backgrounds. This one with the five vibrant rainbow colors is really fun, but the colors are so saturated that it is almost difficult to use them.....they really dominate.
Glad you liked the toothpick "tip". :)
