"I love cats. I love their grace and their elegance. I love their independence and their arrogance, and the way they lie and look at you, summing you up, surely to your detriment, with that unnerving, unwinking, appraising stare."

Hi, Friends........
I am here with a sweet little valentine I made for this week's Unity - Friends with Flair. I used a little birdie stamp I got in a Unity grab bag and teamed it up with the You are Tweet sentiment from their I Tweeted set.
The trick was that I had to reverse the image so I could have the two birdies facing each other. I looked up how to do that and used the method where you stamp on a piece of acetate and then turn that over and press onto your cardstock. I am only somewhat impressed with how well that worked. I was stamping with Memento - London Fog and when I transferred the image.....well, foggy is the right word. Ha!! My black ultra-fine permanent marker came to the rescue for outlining both birdies to (mostly) hide the fog. (You notice I am not giving you a close-up this time! Ha.)
I hand-drew in the little flower that the boy bird is giving to the girl and also the bow on her tail and the heart. I tried out my Distress Markers for the first time to color the bashful little couple and added a little splash of red so you could see they are blushing just a wee bit. So sweet! I am absolutely delighted with how they turned out!!!
Other supplies: scraps of DCWV cardstock, scraps of Core'dinations cardstock, dollar store sparkly twine.
Hope you enjoyed my card. Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Very tweet. Love the pink and blue birds. Hugz
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gail!! I appreciate you mentioning the pink and blue birds. I was thinking that if they were really sweethearts they would have to be the same species....in which case they would prob be closer to the same colors.....or at least one bright and one more drab. But there's the biology major in me over-thinking again!!! Ha.

Very cute and great reverse stamping technique!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Crystal. I think my reverse stamping would have worked better using black ink from the outset. Still learning!!!!

What a "tweet" card...I have never tried the mirrored technique...but yours turned out so cute! Love those lil birdies.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Donna!!! It was kind of scary to do the reverse technique. I think I will have to experiment with some of the reverse stamping techniques that others have mentioned.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda!!!

Janis
that is such a sweet card! Love the colors and the idea of doing the mirror image.
ReplyDeleteHow we used to do it years ago... if you have a large stamp that has a big area of just plain rubber you stamp onto that then stamp your image.
Thanks, Nancy!! I will have to look around to see if I have any big stamps with an area of plain rubber. Great suggestion!

Oh my....this is so adorable that I would steal it if I could!! I have a mirror image rubber stamp which is basically just a plain rubber surface on a wooden block that you use to stamp on and make a reverse image. I have to say that I haven't been too impressed with the result either but this design looks like a hit! Love your little hand drawn flower and bow! How fun is that?
ReplyDeleteOh, Karen......Your comments always make my day!!! Thanks so much for your kind words on the flower and bow. I was delighted with how they turned out.
DeleteThey actually make a plain rubber stamp esp for reverse stamping?????? Who even knew that!!! (Everyone except me, apparently!!! Ha.) I will have to keep my eyes open for one of them. Maybe in the computer age of photo manipulation such devices are defunct.....I'll have to look in a thrift store! :)

Yes, the one I have was something I picked up in the sale bin some years ago. I thought I would use it a lot...but have to say that I've only used it about 2 times. I have also used that technique of stamping on acetate and using it to stamp the reverse image but, like your experience, it was rather a dud. Ummm, a mushy looking, smeared hint of an image wasn't exactly the effect I was going for! Nice save though with the marker!
DeleteGlad to know I am not the only one who had trouble with the acetate technique. Yes, when I said the marker came to my rescue, it really was a rescue!!! :)

Really sweet card. nice touch of drawing the flower to tell a story. Another way I do now to reverse stamp is use my brayer roll over stamp then roll onto card. it's easy to see where to stamp from just move the roller round till it's where you want.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Dawn. I hadn't even thought of the flower "telling a story". I will have to keep that concept in mind. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
