I usually try to match my cat memes with my post somehow.....but with this blitz, I will be using some misc ones that I have found. Enjoy! |
My mojo has been MIA lately, with little to no real crafting going on here in my craft cave........
I knew I wanted to make some masculine cards, so I grabbed my scrap bags and went to work. I ended up with eleven cards....yes....eleven!! And not a SINGLE masculine one among them!!! lol...
Seriously, what is wrong with me??? Eleven cards and none for a guy? I guess it's because I have mostly lady colors in my scrap bags. What an epic fail!! I honestly kept thinking that the NEXT card would be for a guy....and it never was!!! Sheesh...
Well, never one to let some major goof-up go to waste.....I am posting each and every one of all eleven cards using this sketch in a gigantic eleven post blitz with a GIVEAWAY!!!! How's that? (I knew you wouldn't look at them all if I didn't give you some extra incentive!!! Ha!) Read the details of how to enter at the end of the post.
By the way......In case you don't know how the Viva La Verve Sketch challenges work, you can read all the details HERE. They have two sketches each month, but you can enter your cards using either of the month's sketches all month long. Yay!
Okay....here's my first installment...
Can you tell that I originally intended this for a guy? I have wood-grain dry-embossed kraft and twine and kind of a manly-sounding sentiment.....perfect! At least until I started finding pretty pink and floral scraps to use....(sigh).
Hey, notice the vintage button? How many of you have old button jars from your mom or grandma? This 40s or 50s fabric covered specimen was from my mom's jar. I'm not sure how much of the color variation is natural and how much is from age....but I love the look of it here with the twine.
Other supplies used include:
Verve - Scripture Medley 2 stamp set
The Paper Studio - Woodgrain Embossing Folder
Versafine Ink - Vintage Sepia
Distress Ink - Walnut Stain (for sponging on the woodgrain embossing to bring out texture)
Scraps, scraps, scraps, scraps!

What a brilliant idea Janis - I hope loads of folk take part in your giveaway! Wonderful card and of course the button came from you Mom's jar. I have my own Mum's button box here - full of memories!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you in the Playground.

Super card! Love the button and the scripture. When your Mojo is waning (yours doesn't seem to be) - scripture is always a great thing to do! Love this and your ideas. TFS with us in the DRS Designs Challenge, Janis.
ReplyDeleteWoW - you swung from one extreme of no crafting to the mega crafting blow-out !!! :-D This card is fabulous. I can't believe you made 11 and no blokey cards hahahaha - priceless !!! :-D
ReplyDeleteThe button is from your Mum's jar. I have a packet of old ones a friend sent me from the UK. They remind me of a jar my grandmother had. I must admit though that I quite hate buttons and really don't like the smell of the old buttons jars :-( I have been forced to use them in a few Challenges but it really makes my toes curl LoL

Your card is beautiful Janis and how wonderful to have 23rd Psalm on a stamp. Well I have a big old sweet jar of buttons that came from my Mum in Law when we helped her sort out to move home. I think your lovely button came from your mother in Law too. Barbxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for a give-a-way. I love the vintage button from your moms button jar. I have some antique buttons from my husbands mom. I also have her old black Singer. Thank you for joining the DL.ART Thankful Thursday April Linky Challenge. Katie-DT member
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh...my cards tend to head straight to the feminine side instead of the masculine one AND my mojo has also gone MIA.
I loVe how you used that sweet button from your Mom. I have not inherited any buttons.
Crafty hugs,
Dawn

I love your idea on the giveaway! Sounds fun! And, congrats on 400 posts! Happy belated birthday and blogoversary, all rolled into one!
ReplyDeleteYou got your buttons from your Mom's button jar. I have some from my Mom as well, and some from my grandmother! Want to do something special with the more interesting ones, like make some jewelry. I've been having fun looking at Pinterest for ideas!
Oh, this is so pretty. Love the colors and that woodgrain texture. Thanks for playing along with Viva la Verve! Can't wait to see them all. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Janis, I can't believe you didn't make a single masculine card in that batch!! I have to say that I really think this card was trying its best to be a manly card, but then you just had to sneak in that pink! LOVE the vintage button with the twine bow behind it. To answer your question, you got the button from your Mom's button jar and yes, I have some of my own. My original button collection was passed on from my mom as well, and I just added to it over the years.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Wow! 400 posts in just over 2 years... you go, girl! I can't wait to get back into the groove. Meanwhile, I'm loving this beauty with a button from your mom's jar! I just inherited some of my aunt's button collection with late 19th and early 20th century buttons... some are hand carved bone before buttons were mass-produced. Interesting! I even posted a couple that I made into Avatar writsbands. Why are buttons so addictive?!! Congrats, again!
ReplyDeleteps(How much longer til the cat hop?... seems like it's been ages. >^.^<)
Cat Lovers Hop will be the week of October 24th this year. Scratch a mark on your calendar!!! :)

I love your pretty color combination! The button is from your mom's jar! I have a very special pack of paper that I "inherited" from my mother-in-law. Sadly, she was in a fatal car accident before I met my husband, so I never met her. But after we got engaged, my soon-to-be-hubbie gave me the pack of handmade fiber and mulberry papers his mom always had but never used. I occasionally use them on very special family projects! All of those vintage prizes are quite special to have!
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Michele
Thank you for lining up at WAW this week - love the twine and button and of course the sentiment as well! I have several jars of old buttons handed down - love using them! The Lord is good! - blessings Gail DT
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to give prizes.😊 The answer to your question is your mother's button jar. Your card is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the use of the twine and the old button(which of course came from your Mum) on this pretty pink card. I inherited loads of buttons from my MIL who worked in a shirt factory. hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteJust different colors would make masculine Very good work however....................Lis
ReplyDeleteAnother pretty card and love how it all came together with 'the button from your Mom's jar of course"!! I have oodles and i mean oodles of my Mom's old buttons, and I love adding buttons to my cards here and there, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat card using this Bible verse. You got the button from your mom's button jar. I have buttons from my mom and both grandmothers. I love buttons but don't often use them on cards because of being too thick to mail.
ReplyDeleteThis is great Janis but you are right....not quite a masculine card but I applaud the effort with the woodgrain, twine and button (from your Mom's jar! I have some of my Mom's too. Luckily she was a seamstress and had LOTS of buttons which was a good thing as she has LOTS of kids. Eight to be exact! LOL) I too find masculine cards a real challenge although the other day I made a nice one. Wish I could show you! Are you on facebook??? Anyway, glad I caught this blitz of yours, I have been too busy lately to keep up with my fav. blogs that I follow and I try to follow a LOT of them! Off I go to see day 2!
ReplyDeleteSo close to masculine! I can see where you started with that and I love those touches! I make a lot of masculine cards. To answer your question...from your mother. And yes, I have buttons from my grandmothers. My mother still has tons of containers of buttons, she loves to decorate shabby chic style. I love using vintage buttons on projects for her. I have also inherited a few of my friends mother's and grandmothers buttons. One worked at a textile factory manufacturing clothing! So many buttons and many have several of the same button, great for projects like this where you are going to make 11 cards! Such a fun idea! Good luck!

Congrats on winning the DRS Designs Challenge, Janis! Yay!!!! Don't forget to claim your prize - I so want to see what you get and what you make with it. Thanks for playing with us! Hugz
ReplyDeleteThe verse that you used on your card is one of my favorites! To answer your questions, the button that you used came from your mother's jar. Several years ago my mother-in-law gave me a tin of buttons. I have also bought tins/jars of buttons at auctions and antique shops. I think I am a button addict.
ReplyDeleteCongrats You won with this lovely card at DRS Design!
ReplyDeleteHi Janis I am your new follower too! Your button came from your Mum, and like most of us we have inherited a lot of beautiful old buttons. Great card BTW
ReplyDeletefun giveaway! It came from your mom's and I love that button! I didn't inherit any, but I made a button tin just like my mom's, love the sound of them in a tin!
