Embossed Sympathy Cards

Hi, Friends.....

I made a series of sympathy cards to have on hand and also to put in my box at church where people "buy" them by donating to the Crisis Pregnancy Center where I volunteer.

By the way...when I mention here on my blog that a particular card is for an "order".....it is a request I have received and any money goes to this cause. As many of you crafters have already discovered, receiving charitable donations for our cards is often the way to go. To truly sell them, we'd have to charge way too much for all the time that actually goes into making them. During the few months I have been offering my cards for donation at our little church in our tiny community, I have raised around $120 for the Center. That's not a lot, but it is a start. Every little bit helps!!

I had these sandable scraps of Core'dinations cardstock left over from the graduation cards I made HERE and HERE. The remnants were the perfect width for my slim embossing folders to make a narrow panel with a tranquil scene.

I am entering the current As You Like It challenge where they ask you about your favorite kind of embossing: heat or dry. I honestly can't really choose because I LOVE them both. I am completely dazzled by heat embossing, but it is messy and I have to get my heat gun out, it doesn't always look perfect, etc etc. Dry embossing is a whiz. Stick your paper in the folder and run it through the machine. Voila! A fabulous design every time that can be dressed up or left plain for subtle texture. I really love the look of sanded dry embossing, too, so I chose this for my "favorite" this time.

I made a bunch of these in other colors. Let me know which is your favorite.

Products used include:
Winnie & Walter - Sentimental: Gift stamp set
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Darice - Nature (3-pack) embossing folders
Core'dinations Core Essentials - Darks
Core'dinations Sand-it Gadget
Tonic Studios - Nuvo Crystal Drops
Scraps for background panels

Hope this gives you some ideas for making a batch of cards using scraps. Thank you for stopping by today. I love it when you visit and leave me nice comments!

  1. Well done on collecting so much money for your charity. And these are all wonderful cards and great sand embossing-it does look fabulous. My fav is the second one down of the collection you have showed. I like the subtle grid look of the paper behind. Wonderful to see you at Time Out

  2. Love this idea and great job raising money for the crisis pregnancy center. Our money goes to our food pantry program. My faves are the first one with the music background and the one in grey tones. I will definitely be copying this idea--thanks.

  9. What a wonderful idea to offer your cards for donations to the Center. It's a good way for community members to contribute to a needed cause, and for you to know that your cards are doing double duty. I share your love of dry embossing and only finally gave in and bought my Big Shot when I discovered embossing folders. These are a really beautiful set of sympathy cards and my favorite colors combos are the first one, for fall, and the last two (for masculine cards).
