Graphic 45 Sporty Father's Day Card

Hi, Friends......

I am here with a baseball-themed Father's Day card I made for an order this month. I went with a super-easy collage style made from Graphic 45 papers....great for a masculine card without any fancy doo-dads.

I often use a 5-1/2" square format when I make this kind of card so the ephemera fits without being too crowded. I know this size takes extra postage if it is being mailed, but since this was going to be hand delivered it didn't make any difference. I do try to keep that in mind when filling orders.

Your Kindness Card with White Embossing

Hi, Friends......

I am here to share with you another heat embossed card.  This one has very simple messy watercoloring for almost an impressionistic look. It's an autumn scene and you might think I am jumping the gun with it, but let me tell you it is STILL chilly here in Idaho. (If everything weren't so leafed out and green, I would think it was already autumn. The air truly has thaaaaaaat kind of nip to it. I don't know if it ever hit 70 yesterday, although it was bright sunny all day, and it was in the 40s last night!! Brrrr.)
 
This card was inspired by several challenges: 

1. The June Winnie & Walter Rerun Challenge. I don't own the rerun set (Scenery: Into the Woods) but I was inspired by Shay's lovely card HERE with the white embossed wood grain. I rarely use my white embossing powder for anything besides sentiments or snowflakes so I wanted to give something new a try. I even stayed with a woodsy/tree theme! :)

2. The current Double Trouble Challenge which is a Double Dare Color Challenge along with Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge.  Even though these are more summery colors, the Sorbet color reminded me of red autumn leaves and the rosy tint of the autumn sky, so I gave this out-of-season theme a go.  I did not do the optional Thing 2 Twist of String Things this time. (I'm still not sure what they thought of my frayed burlap for the String Twist from one of my other entries, but I thought it was clever! lol....)

3. As You Like It Challenge - Fave Type of Embossing and Why. As I mentioned before, I honestly can't decide which I like better....but one of my favorite things to do when watercoloring is to heat emboss my image for raised outlines. They help to keep me in the lines, so that's what I did here. (Not that I stayed in the lines on this card, but I DID do the heat embossing! Ha.)

 

I wasn't sure if my white embossing would work very well with the challenge colors. The Glacier color is rather pale and I feared it might not give enough contrast with the white embossed sentiment. So while I had my stamps set up on my MISTI, I stamped a second panel to be embossed with dark brown powder. 

Which do you like better???? I am leaning toward the white one. It's a different look for me and I think it is pretty, although the dark one looks more autumny.

Joy - June Rudolph Days and Double Trouble Color Challenge

Hi, Friends.....

I am here with my June entry into Scrappy Mo's Rudolph Days Challenge.  Finally.......I've been able to enjoy a full month of cardmaking and blogging so Mo's wonderful challenge isn't the only thing that has made me break away and get into my craftroom!  It has felt good to be active in here again.  Not sure how long that will last, though, because summer activities pull me away as the weather gets warmer.  Right now it is unseasonably cool and my THIRD planting of zucchini has still not come up!!  (And that is with fresh seed!!)  :( 

Today, I am also entering both the Double Trouble Challenge and the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge which have teamed up using the same colors for their challenges as a Double Dare kind of thing. So much fun!!!

 

For this Christmas card, I went very simple: no-stamping and non-traditional colors. It's always fun to see if I can make different color palettes work for Christmas. (I'm still having a challenge getting that "glacier" color to photograph true to real life and my die-cut cardinals are actually a tiny bit redder IRL, too. Sigh...)


I have tons (prob literally...ask my hubby!!) of patterned paper and rarely make a completely die-cut card with only solid cardstock. This one has a tiny bit of patterned cardstock for the cardinals, but otherwise it is all solids. I am unaccustomed to this look and it leaves me feeling like it still needs something. But it is good for me to try different looks, so here it is. The non-fussy look of the card makes it somewhat masculine, too.

Butterfly Thank You for Double Trouble

This 19-yr old kitty changed his hair color!!  He used to be solid black, but his coat is now marbled due to a harmless and rare condition.  You can read about this kitty and his unusual coat HERE.  My sweet Jetta doesn't have that condition, but at age 15 her solid black coat is getting more and more flecked with white hairs...and now she has one white whisker.  <3

Hi, Friends......

I am here with a bright and cheery thank you card that changed colors on the photo!! lol.... I am such a novice when it comes to photography. Even with photo editing software, I can't get the colors right!! Arrrgh. So you will have to bear with me.   And if the color challenges I am entering this in don't accept it, I will understand.  I am also new to these "ALL and ONLY" color challenges where you can't use anything but those colors, but have to use them all. 

Are you aware of a super-fun new challenge blog called Double Trouble??? If you like Dr. Seuss (oh, yes we do, we do, we do!) and if you like challenges with twists (twists are nice, so very nice!) and if you like to pile on an extra challenge or two or three (that's for me, yes..that's for me!) then you will LOVE Double Trouble with Thing One, Thing Two, and even Thing Three! What a delight!!!

This fortnight's Double Trouble Challenge is a color challenge..... wherein lies my photo editing trouble!!! Seems that Things 1, 2, & 3 have changed their hair colors and my camera has done the same thing!!! We are to match those colors (all and only) on our projects. The twist is "String Things" (still with the hair theme, I guess...lol) and the colors happen to be the same ones as over at the current Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge!!









I carefully peeled off some of the background of the burlap to fray it for the String Twist.....however, in order for the stringy burlap background to look even close to the actual in real life color, the butterfly turned much darker and blue-r than it actually is in real life. Arrrrgh. It doesn't look like it goes with this color challenge at all. :(

And....don't even ASK why the piece of burlap is soooooooooo totally off-grain.....I cut it straight, but every piece in the stack is wonky that way. I am just going to say it is ARTY!!! Ha. So that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Embossed Sympathy Cards

Hi, Friends.....

I made a series of sympathy cards to have on hand and also to put in my box at church where people "buy" them by donating to the Crisis Pregnancy Center where I volunteer.

By the way...when I mention here on my blog that a particular card is for an "order".....it is a request I have received and any money goes to this cause. As many of you crafters have already discovered, receiving charitable donations for our cards is often the way to go. To truly sell them, we'd have to charge way too much for all the time that actually goes into making them. During the few months I have been offering my cards for donation at our little church in our tiny community, I have raised around $120 for the Center. That's not a lot, but it is a start. Every little bit helps!!

I had these sandable scraps of Core'dinations cardstock left over from the graduation cards I made HERE and HERE. The remnants were the perfect width for my slim embossing folders to make a narrow panel with a tranquil scene.

I am entering the current As You Like It challenge where they ask you about your favorite kind of embossing: heat or dry. I honestly can't really choose because I LOVE them both. I am completely dazzled by heat embossing, but it is messy and I have to get my heat gun out, it doesn't always look perfect, etc etc. Dry embossing is a whiz. Stick your paper in the folder and run it through the machine. Voila! A fabulous design every time that can be dressed up or left plain for subtle texture. I really love the look of sanded dry embossing, too, so I chose this for my "favorite" this time.

I made a bunch of these in other colors. Let me know which is your favorite.

Violet and Gold Butterfly Card

Hi, Friends....

I am here with a pretty card featuring gleaming gold heat embossing. I LOVE both kinds of embossing and use them each a lot.....even both together sometimes! I still remember the thrill of seeing the powder magically melt into a gorgeous embossed design for the first time. I was hooked and am still enchanted.

On this card, I heat embossed the butterflies onto vellum so they would blend better with the fabulous patterned paper scrap that has gold foiling. It reminds me of an elegant cloisonne vase. I lifted the wings a little for dimension and made this into a tall format card to give the butterflies some room to fly around.

I am here with a bright summery card that I am using for a thank you card for a young gal who saved up some money to donate to the Crisis Pregnancy Center where I volunteer. I thought she deserved a special card for her efforts and generosity.

I used a groovy stamp from MFT and colored it with my Distress Markers following the palette. The iridescent sequins I used match IRL, but took on a completely different color in the photo....go figure! (sigh)

Floral Happy Birthday with Butterflies

Hi, Friends....

I'm here with a pretty card for the Unstampabelles Challenge - Flowers, Flowers, and more Flowers with a twist of Add Bling. It's easy to make no-stamping cards when I use Graphic 45 papers because they are sooooooooo gorgeous!! I dressed up this card with lots of layered flowers and added two sizes of leaves die cut from scraps of gleaming foiled copper cardstock. LOVE!!! The butterflies and violet colors even qualify this for a couple of current Butterfly challenges....YAY!

Happy Father's Day, Papa Bear

My pastor's wife asked me to make a Father's Day card for her hubby, our pastor. They have a toddler son and so I chose this adorable Winnie & Walter bear image. My focal image background is die cut from one of my marker refill water backgrounds. I sponged over the bears with Distress Ink and did a little shading with Distress Markers.

Season's Greetings - Another One-Layer Card

Hi, Friends......

So......there I was on my way to look at the latest Color My Heart Color Dare challenge......when I noticed last week's color challenge there (which overlaps this week's challenge to give you two full weeks to play). Look at these wonderful colors.....slightly Christmasy, but definitely non-traditional:

I was enthused about making another One Layer Card because of the warm comments you have left on my other attempt at an OLC card HERE (Thank you so much!).....and I had a stamp I wanted to try out.

To my shame, this wonderful Penny Black - Berry Bevy stamp lay uninked in my stash for waaaaaay too long. I masked off the edges of my card and heat embossed the image before sponging the sky and watercoloring the berries. I added a tiny bit of shimmer to the berries with Wink of Stella, but you can't see it in the photo.

I am here with a fun little snowman scene for the Winnie & Walter June Color Challenge with Heather H.

At first glance, the palette and inspiration photo probably seems anything but Christmas, but I think it works. What do you think?

I was super-brave (for me!) and broke out of my usual mold with this card. Not only is it CAS, but it is also a One Layer Card. It even has a masculine feel to it.
