Wonky Framed Happy Birthday Cards

Hi, Friends.....

I have a fatal flaw (probably several!!) when it comes to my crafting....I never want to throw anything away!! So when I had a bunch of leftover "outsides" of die cut panels, I immediately thought of FRAMES. But what do you do with a bunch of inverse scallop skinny frames? The only option for a crazy cat woman like me to do with them was to layer them in a wonky way! Thus began a whimsical cardmaking frenzy. :)

I have enjoyed playing with the colors from the Winnie & Walter Color Combo Challenge for July. Take a look at the fabulous inspiration photo and color palette that Heather H. chose for this month....YUM!! There is only a day or two left in this challenge, so hurry if you want to link up!!

My lame brain can't remember who sent me these cute little bird die cuts several years ago (Karen, do you recognize them????) ....but they had been in my stash all this time. I was thrilled that they matched the color palette and decided to try to find a way to use them. The mesh behind the die cut and the playful frame arrangement reminds me of a bird in a makeshift coop. I did a bunch of variations on this theme with various embellishments and embossing.

#1 - With dry embossed birdie and heat embossed hearts.

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Winnie & Walter - In a Word: Happy Cutaway die
Winnie & Walter - Kindness with Evelin T Designs stamp set (little hearts)
Versamark Ink
WOW! Embossing Powder - Opaque Bright White Regular
Waffle Flower - On My Mark stamp set
Versafine Ink - Black Onyx
Darice - Crackle embossing folder
DCWV scraps from my stash
Flower rhinestone from Dollar Store
Here are the other variations I made.  Please let me know which you like best!

#2 - With rhinestones on the wing and stars and rhinestones on the background.
#3 - With argyle tag behind the birdie.

#4 - Flower Power with dry embossed birdie (checkered).

#5 - With a silver heart from a scrap of DCWV Mercury Glass paper.

#6 - With different print for the Happy die cut and sparkly flower rhinestone.

Hope you enjoyed my fanciful and happy cards! Thank you so much for stopping by. Your visits and comments make my day!!

  1. I like the second card best closely followed by the last card. I'm just the same can't bring myself to throw anything away. If your frames are exactly the same then I stack mine altogether to make either a nice sturdy frame or use to make a shaker card with.

    1. I like all the bling on #2 (which you can read more abt down on my reply to Karen's comment!) but had some mishaps. I like #6...which shows my weakness for big sparkly dollar store kids' craft gems. Ha! :)

Thank you for your lovely comment and the great tip for using those frames!!

  3. These are all so fun, and how wonderful that you were able to use that flock of die-cut birds that have been languishing in your stash..yay!! The mesh is a perfect bit of texture and you're right about it resembling a coop. Love how you embellished them all differently and even dry embossed one. What a great way to use up those frame left-overs, but I'm thinking they were a bear to adhere! Hmmm, I think my favorite is #2, with the fancy rhinestone wing and stars!!

    1. #2 was actually the first of these that I made. I like the wings and the stars. I tried to put Nuvo drops up with the stars, but it took on a squarish appearance as it filled in the mesh spaces and looked decidedly NOT good!! So I covered them up with big gems and decided to try again on a different card. :) Thank you for your sweet comments!!

  8. Hi Janis! Well, I love ALL the birdies best! haha
I also save everything - I have so many negatives. I really need to go through that pile and use some of it already. Those are some great colors to play with.
