Bare Footin'

Hi, Friends.......

I have another sunny summery card for you today. I found these fabulous little flip-flop embellishments at my local thrift store and have been wanting to make this very card for a long time. Well.....summer is here and so I finally got it made! :)

I had to resist the temptation to line the flip-flops all up in a nice tidy row at the bottom of my card. But I decided that I wanted a casual, "can't wait to kick off my shoes" kind of look to go with the fun sentiment. So the haphazard arrangement is what happened. lol..

Supplies used include:
Cardz-TV - Summer Fun stamp set
Versafine ink in Crimson Red
My Favorite Things Die-namics - Sunny Skies die
Scraps of DCWV patterned paper, kraft cardstock, and solid cardstock
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Tiny flip-flops from thrift store

Thank you for stopping by today!!! Hope you like this fun card. It makes me want to go to the beach......the REAL beach...at the ocean!!! I don't consider the tiny spots of sand along the Clearwater River in Idaho as anything close to being "beaches".....but incredibly that is what they call them around here! (Janis shakes head in dismay! Nooooo, no, no!!)

Have a SUN-sational Day!

Hi, Friends,

I have been using some of my large patterned papers lately, and here are a couple more cards I made with some. I like the tropical surf theme for summertime masculine birthday cards, but didn't want to dress them up too fancy.

So I put some Glossy Accents on the surfboards and added a simple sentiment and photo corners. Quick and easy......and used up some old stash!! WIN! I couldn't decide whether I wanted to use a sunny yellow or jungle green.....so I made one of each. :) Which one do you like better? I think I like the yellow one.

Supplies used include:
DCWV patterned paper
Scrapbook-Adhesives - Photo Corners
Ranger - Glossy Accents
Cardz-TV - Summer Fun stamp set
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Core'dinations/Darice cardstock

Hope this gives you ideas on dressing up patterned paper for quick and easy cards. I think these will make fun birthday cards for a young man. Thank you for stopping by today.

Hold on to the Spirit of Christmas - July Rudolph Days

Hi, Friends.......

I am here with a couple of cards I made for the July Rudolph Days at Scrappy Mo's. I used some of the background I made with leftover Easter egg dye and salt. This is from the same sheet as I used HERE on my butterfly card. You can read my technique there.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to coordinate with the purple and blues or the pink from the background, so I made one of each. Which do you like better?

Here's the purple/blue one:

I had not used my K&K Small Bow Maker for a long time.  Since I wanted to make sure this bow looked perfect, I got it out.  I had to look up on YouTube to remember how to use it, but it worked great.
Here it is in pink:

Supplies used include:
Quietfire Designs - Hold on to the Spirit of Christmas
Versafine ink in Majestic Blue
Clear sparkle embossing powder
My Favorite Things Die-namics - Stitched Oval STAX die set
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set
Sheer ribbon from stash
K&K Small Bow Maker
Pretty Pink Posh - Sparkling Clear Mix sequins

Hope you liked my cards. Which is your favorite? I think I like the blue/purple one better. Thank you for stopping by today!!!

Programmed to Party

Hi, Friends.....

I'm back with a happy birthday card especially suitable for a young boy. I used a fun robot party clown image and crisp lines to go with the bright red, white, and blue color scheme. I left the image uncolored to stay with the clean look. Buttons seemed to go just right with this little clown. I rarely use them, so I was glad to find just the right colors in my stash!!!

I used the July Sketch from Power Poppy today:

Quick and Easy Tropical Sunset with Scriptures

Hi, Friends.......

Sometimes I want a very simple encouragement card that is blank inside but has a scripture on the outside. I had these DCWV pieces that I thought would be great for summer. I went with brights for the sentiment panel and card base so the whole thing didn't fade into deepening twilight. I heat embossed my sentiment for a glossy finish that coordinates well with the glossy background scene.

Supplies used include:
Verve - Scripture Medley 2 stamp set (retired)
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Clear embossing powder
DCWV patterned paper

Wishing You Glad Tidings.......

Hi, Friends.......

I am here with another card for Jo's Christmas Kickstart - Festive Things with Wings theme. What thing with wings is more festive at Christmas than an angel????

As you might recall, I try to use neglected supplies in my stash for Jo's challenges. I knew I wanted to use this gorgeous Hero Arts image that had been lonely in my stash, but wasn't sure exactly HOW I wanted to use it. Finally I stamped it out on black cardstock, heat embossed it with gold powder, and painted it with shimmering watercolors. I think they give a lovely translucent ephemeral look....just right for an angel. (I guess.....lol...)

The next part was a bit tricky because I actually fussy cut it!!! lol.... Fussy cutting drives me batty, but I soldiered on. :) For my background I decided to get out my long-neglected embossing paste and stenciled a starry sky. I have only used my embossing paste maybe twice before....but it was easy and fun. You might see it again soon!

I loved the textured and stenciled stars, but it seemed like it needed something else. Clouds, maybe???? Since my angel almost looks like she is on vellum, I decided to diecut some vellum clouds and see what I thought. I knew the stars would show through them, but I thought it might look arty. Turns out I really like the effect. What do you think???

Do you struggle with attaching vellum?  I folded the clouds over the edge of the cardstock when I could, but I still had a few places that needed to be tacked down.  I like my Scrapbook Adhesives - EZ Runner for Vellum but sometimes it still shows.  So I took the end of a stylus and got a bit of the glue from the EZ Runner and placed it on a star and pressed the cloud down to stick.  That worked really well and it blends with the natural variations of the stars so you never notice it.

Supplies used include:
Hero Arts - Heavenly Angel stamp
Versamark Ink
Gold embossing powder
Cardz-TV - Glad Tidings stamp set
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Big Bang Classic Star Creative Screenings
Dreamweaver- Embossing Paste
Lil' Inker - Rainbows and Clouds
Vellum from my stash
Scrapbook Adhesives - EZ Runner for Vellum
DCWV Gold Glitter Cardstock
Core'dinations/Darice Black Cardstock

Hope you enjoyed my card. I really love how this turned out. I think it is my favorite of my Christmas in July cards this year. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind comments!!!

Happy Birthday for Young Man

Hi, Friends......

I am here with a stenciled no-stamping birthday card for the Unstampabelles Stencil Play Challenge with optional twist of Use Sprays....which I did! :)

I used another of my DCWV 12x12 patterned paper with a large silhouette image. This was perfect for the tall-format card size that I like to make. These fit in a standard #10 envelope (business size). I stenciled stars with Distress Ink in Black Soot and then heat embossed them with clear powder. I put a roughly cut mask over the image and pulled out my box of sprays and mists to start making a mess!! I used 3 different sprays to spray, splatter, and dot.

For my sentiment, I used my trusty Epson electronic label maker. I LOVE this little workhorse!!! I received it a long time ago from a very generous crafter in a stash-busting prize. (Not sure if Sabrina Alery is still around or not....but THANKS, Sabrina!!)  Among a million other fabulous things, she sent the new-in-box machine and a variety of label tapes. I ordered some of this clear background tape for customizing cards without stamping. It worked perfectly for adding a sentiment to this card.

Supplies used include:
DCWV patterned paper
Epson Label Maker
Black on Clear background label tape
Winnie & Walter - Scenery: Big Bang Classic Star Creative Screenings
Distress Ink in Black Soot
Goosebumps Clear Texture Spray
Tsukineko Walnut Ink Antiquing Solution
Heidi Swapp Color Shine - White

Hope you liked this no-stamping card. I had a lot of fun making it. I think it will make a great card for a pre-teen or teenaged young man.

Seasons Greetings with Lots of Gold

Hi, Friends.......

Do you love gold at Christmas???? I sure do......or at ANY time! I had this scrap of ancient photo-realistic DCWV patterned paper with ornaments on it that I wanted to use for the ABC Christmas - O is for Ornament Challenge.......but I had to think of a way to dress it up. What better way than with some more gold ornaments??? :)

I ran the edges of my background panel over my Versamark ink pad and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I used a gold scrap from the DCWV Mercury Glass stack for the die-cut ornaments.

My crafty pal Karen Ladd will recognize the shiny gold trim on the left. (Oh, my goodness....I still have a bunch of this left, Karen. It will outlast those weird 7-pointed snowflakes!!!) I glued that crinkly ribbon on with my usual glue: Beacon 3-in-1....forgetting that the acetone solvent of the glue dissolves that cellophane-like material!! EEEEK! A little die-cut tree concealed the distorted part where the glue made contact. Whew!

Inspired by the MFT 2019 Camp Create Day 5: Glitzy Glitter Challenge, I added a touch of glitter by using gold glitter glue for the ornament hangers.

Supplies used include:
Clearly Besotted -Tree and Tinsel dies (retired)
Spellbinders - Holiday Tags die set
Inkylicious - Seasons Greetings x4 stamp set
Versamark ink
Gold embossing powder
Scraps of DCWV paper, foiled cardstock, and solid card
Gold ribbons from my stash

Hope you enjoyed all the gold! Merry Christmas in July to you. Thank you so much for stopping by today.

Let it Snow Penguin and Mouse Friends

Hi, Friends......

Are you like I am........you have stacks of ancient but cute 12x12 patterned paper with designs that are a bit too big for a standard A2 card?  I love this adorable DCWV penguin, but the banners that embellish him are large. I had some stray envelopes that fit a 5x7 card.....and that turned out to be just the right size for this happy little fellow and his tiny mouse friend.....who better watch out for the kitty in the meme at the top! :)

I had a little extra uncovered space at the bottom of my card base,

so I added some glittery washi tape. I put a strip on the envelope to coordinate as well. I was inspired by the MFT 2019 Camp Create Day 5: Glitzy Glitter Challenge, so I also smoothed some glitter glue on my snowflakes.

(Please vote "yes" or "no" in the comments as to whether you think I will EVER use up these very strange Dollar Store snowflakes that include 7-pointed flakes in the assortment!!! I estimate that I still have roughly 50 left....unless I discover another little baggie of them hiding in my stash somewhere!!! Groan....I am determined, though!)

Supplies used include:
Inkylicious - Seasons Greetings x4 stamp set
Versafine ink in Imperial Purple
DCWV patterned paper
Scraps of cardstock from my stash for sentiment panel and mat
Washi tape
Strange Dollar Store snowflakes
Glitter glue in silver

Hope you like this sweet penguin card. Maybe it gives you some ideas for quick cards with hard-to-use designs. Not all our cards have to be masterpieces. I love the challenge of using old stash that I have on hand and accenting it with fun embellishments. Thank you for stopping by!!!

Grungy 'Tis the Season

Hi, Friends.......

I am here with another Christmas in July card to share. This one ended up with kind of grunge feel. It's a different look.....but I like it. You, my cardmaking pals, can perhaps appreciate the techniques, if not the style. :)

I played around with double-embossing on colored cardstock. This background is dry embossed on red and then heat embossed with a warm-tone silver for an antique metallic look.

To add to the grungy look, I used the same embossing powder on black for the sentiment. The contrast isn't as great as I would have liked. But it is still readable, so I guess it is okay.

I wanted to do something a little extra with the sentiment banner, so I put a square of foam underneath the center and the ends and liquid glue in between them to give a slightly scrolled look. You can see the curves in the angled shot below. It's subtle, but the foam will help keep that strip from crushing when it goes through the mail.

I finished it off with some rhinestones and silver photo corners. The corners are a favorite accent of mine when I want something that's not too flashy. They are inexpensive and make a card look tailored and finished. They work especially well on masculine cards or cards with a busy double-embossed background. I keep an assortment of all the colors on hand.
Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Darice - Christmas Tree embossing folder
Versamark ink
Warm silver embossing powder
My Mind's Eye - All is Bright stamp set (retired)
Scrapbook-Adhesives - Photo Corners
