An Unusual Request.....

Hi, Friends......

What's the most unusual request you've ever had for a card? I got an order the other day for a funny one.....a chicken-themed sympathy card. A friend at church recently lost a bunch of her chickens to night-time raids by skunks. 🐔🐔🐔😞😠😢 Many of us up here in our tiny community have chickens and so we all can relate to the anguish of a predator attack. Another friend asked me to make a card expressing condolences for losing so many of her flock.  This sounded like fun!

I don't have one of those cute skunk stamp sets with a "That stinks" sentiment.  So I used a skunk from an adorable NBUS set my crafty pal Karen Ladd gave me (THANKS, Karen!!) and made a simple but fun card with a computer-generated sentiment. I colored the images with my Prismacolors.

Inside I used some chicken ephemera pieces from the Bella Blvd Barn Yard collection. I think their big eyes look a little bit worried, don't you?

Supplies used include:
Hero Arts - Woodland Creatures stamp set
Versafine ink in Onyx Black
Unity - "So sorry for your loss" from Beautiful Life, Blessed Memories (Feb. 2015 Sentiment Kit)
Lawn Fawn - Large Stitched Rectangles die set
Bella Blvd - Barn Yard Paper Pieces (retired)
Prismacolor Colored Pencils

I hope this card brings a smile to the face of our friend who lost so many chickens. (By the way, they have killed 4 far!)  Hope you enjoyed the card, too. Thank you so much for stopping by today!!

Are you able to enjoy some spring weather where you live?  I have hummingbirds draining my nectar feeders and summer birds gorging on the seed feeders. So fun and interesting to watch them! Do you have any birdfeeders up?

Thank you for the honor of entering this card in the following challenges:
1. NBUS Challenge #14 (The Hero Arts stamps and the Barn Yard animal ephemera are NBUS)

  1. Now that IS an interesting card request and you did a great job! Love the little animals. Thanks for sharing with us at Double Trouble :)

  2. Those bad ol skunks.

We just had our first hummer a few days ago. So pretty. We also saw our first Painted Bunting a few weeks ago. Unfortunately we haven't seen it since. We have lots of birds to the feeders. We make our own suet and have done so for years. They love it. It does't melt and I think they're all addicted to it. The orioles have gone back home and we miss them. In Florida we get very little spring weather. It seems like we go from the cold to instant heat. We're already worried about the A/C running so much. [Bunny]

  3. Well this is a challenge in a challenge. Sorry for the loss of the chickens in such a terrible way. I think this is the first ever sympathy card for chickens. But I think that you did it! Thanks for sharing it with us at Creative Confetti.

  4. I guess being a card make leaves you open to some unique requests! Your card turned out just perfect, thank you for sharing with us at Double Trouble!

  5. Oh no..I got so sad about that tale of lost chickens that I almost forgot to look at your card. I don't like skunks on the best of days but have to say I had no idea that they go after chickens. So glad that skunk image came in handy for you..and I probably even have one or two "That Stinks" sentiments around here as well..ha!
I don't usually get requests to make cards but my daughter asked me, last year, to make a boy's birthday cards with an "Incredibles" theme. Not having seen the movie, I had to Google it and adapt a super hero stamp set that I had to match the characters.
I've made and sent sympathy cards on the loss of a pet dog or cat but can't say I've ever made one for chickens!

  6. Goodness, such a fun card for a sad loss, I'm sure the recipient will enjoy the creativity of your card both inside and out. Thanks for sharing your story and project with us at Double Trouble.

  7. Your sympathy card for the skunk attack and loss is just perfect, Janis! It will bring a smile and comfort and I'm glad they are taking care of the problem. My hummers are drinking less nectar now that there are so many flowers in bloom for them to get the real thing. Take care and keep safe and thank you for sharing at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell

  8. I would have appreciated a card like this when our chickens have been attacked.

  9. I'm absolutely sure this card will cheer up your friend! Love the soft coloring and the cute scene you created. Thank you for joining us at Time Out!

  10. Oh my goodness....these are just too darn cute!!! Thank you so much for playing along with us at Time Out!

  11. So sorry for your loved one's loss. I believe your card might ease some of the difficult time when they think of your thoughtfulness. Thank you for sharing with Double Trouble Challenge #55.

THANK YOU so much for taking the time to leave a comment. Your kind words encourage me so very much!!!
