Happy Hanukkah

"Everything comes to those who wait......except a cat."
                                                                            ------------Mario Andretti

Hi, Friends.......

I am here with a Hanukkah card I made for the dear gentleman who lives next door to us.  (Thank you to Chana at 613 Avenue Create Challenge Blog for reminding me about Hanukkah beginning!)  My design for this card is simple, but I added a touch of elegance with my molten background technique that I detailed in this post.  I think the gold is perfect for the Festival of Lights.

For this card, I used my Darice Circle Interlock embossing folder and heat embossed all over with gold.  I wanted the design pattern to show up a little better, so I brayered Versamark over the surface and heat embossed with a deep blue that matches the cardstock.

The sentiment is from the Fall and Winter Holiday Sentiments set that was a prize from A Creative Journey with Melissa.  (THANKS, Melissa!!)  I backed it with some DCWV glitter cardstock and mounted the whole thing on some Coredinations blue cardstock.

Also, in keeping with the holiday, I saw this adorable Hanukkah paper plate craft on the Ain't She Crafty blog.  I thought our neighbor would enjoy Little Peach making a craft for him, too.  Here she is....hard at work with some glitter glue.

With some help and coaching from her mommy, here she is with her finished project.  Cute, huh?  :)

  4. Wow, Janis! Your neighbor will be so touched, and he will especially love the menorah Peach created! Love how you imaginatively utilized the Hanukah colors on the card. Today's photo of the kitty reminds me so much of my dear kitty! She enjoys perching on top of the pie safe just like that, looking down as we pass by. Then she coo's a greeting to let us know she is there! Your stacked firewood looks fabulous! Even here in central FL we have had the fireplace going, and are grateful for the wood to burn it from our own acreage. Merry Christmas, Janis! love, de

    1. Thanks, Donna!!! Your kitty sounds so sweet. I know those cooing noises they make when they want to say hello. So precious.

How nice that you can harvest your own wood! We buy ours from one of the many people around here that go into the woods and get it. I am guessing that in Florida your fireplace is as much for giving things a cozy ambience as for heat. But there's nothing like wood heat to take the chill out of the air.....no matter where you live!

Thanks so much for stopping by. Many wishes for a lovely Christmas and New Year!

  7. Wow, that molten EP technique of yours was just made for this card! The royal blue with gold embossing looks so rich and luxurious! I also love that embossing folder you used...looks just like the wedding ring quilt pattern. Looks like I'm going to have to keep my eye out for that folder because it would be one I'd use often. Oh my gosh, little Peach is so darn proud of her sweet little menorah...and she should be! Your neighbor was most certainly bowled over by your talents (both of yours). So glad to see you back in your crafty mode!!

    1. Thanks, Karen!!! I really love navy and gold together.....of course I love a lot of color combos....lol... I appreciate your nice comments. Little Peach was very excited abt her project and was asking me that evening right after she finished it if we were going to go to "Mr. Eugene's" house right then! I told her we would wait until the next day and then go visit him and give him our cards and things. :)

  9. What an absolutely wonderful post! I not only enjoyed your card, but enjoyed seeing and reading about Hanukkah as well. I love how this time of year really zeroes in on what's most important. I think it's great that you are giving and encouraging the gift of crafting to others. What a profound influence such little acts of kindness have! Good job at creating and promoting a more artistic world! And thank you for sharing this post with us here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!
