I am still catching up from Easter and then traveling to the Portland, Oregon area to see my Dad. He's nearly 93 years old and his memory has failed him ["Your name is Janis?" he asked...."I have a daughter named Janis!" :) ] but he figured out who I was after a few minutes and we had a great visit. :)

| This dear man of God is frail, and he gets confused easily, but he has NOT forgotten how to pray! As we were leaving, my hubby asked Dad if he would like to pray for us. He stood to his feet and said "Yes!"...amazingly transformed. In the strongest and most confident voice we'd heard at any time during our visit, he thanked our Heavenly Father for the solid rock of our faith, Jesus Christ, and prayed for protection and a safe journey for us. I was so touched and blessed. <3 <3 <3 |
Today, I am sharing a sweet little coloring book I made for the Mark's Finest Papers Wild Animal Hop/Tutorial Challenge. They included a wonderful little tutorial on making this with a clever spiral binding, but I didn't have the tiny hole punch they suggested so I made a 3-ring binding with chenille stems. I didn't have many wild animal images, either, so I made it a more general nature theme. :)
I used a variety of Mark's Finest Papers stamp sets. Here on the front cover, you see stamps from these sets: Mark's Finest Papers - Nature's Brushstrokes and Mark's Finest Papers - Silly Shells. I used Tsukineko Versafine Ink in Onyx Black for all my stamping.
I started out with seashell images from: Mark's Finest Papers - Sand Dollar Mini and Mark's Finest Papers - Silly Shells stamp sets.
I did this two-page spread with florals from these sets: Mark's Finest Papers - Works of Art and Mark's Finest Papers - Lily of the Valley.
The last section, including the back cover, is the land animal section using stamps from these sets: Mark's Finest Papers - Hoppy Easter, Mark's Finest Papers - Above the Rest, Mark's Finest Papers - Year of the Horse.
I will give this to my little 5 yr old granddaughter. I think she will enjoy it!! Thank you to Mark's Finest Papers for this fun tutorial challenge!!!

What a super cute coloring book! Thank you for sharing with us at MFP Blog Hop Challenge.
ReplyDeleteMy mom told me to take a look at how you used pipe cleaners for the binding and I have to say it's much easier than the wire that was used in the tutorial. These would be fun to make for party favors for my girls' parties, especially if I don't have to mess around with wire! I enjoyed hearing about your visit with your dad and am glad you were able to visit with him. I lost my grandma 3 years ago and still miss her everyday.

DeleteI know what you mean abt your Grandma, Shannon. Even though I lost my Grandma a long time ago...when I was in college...I still miss her, too! I hope I can be that kind of Grandma to my Little Peach!

Oh, I love everything about this post! The story about your dad, the photo of the two of you, and that fun little coloring book with the personalized back page. What a great idea to label some of the images...and a wonderful use of your MFP nature stamps. I guess I'd better stamp the back of mine too...so as not to be outdone! Love the chenille stem bindings, it's colorful and fuzzy.....everything a kid would like!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen! I look a little bit rumpled in that photo....but I posted it, anyway! Ha. The day was so much warmer than what we'd been used to in Idaho where we had snow everyday for quite some time. Then to compound things, there was a wreck on the freeway that held us up for an hour. Hubby and I were both thinking "Get me back to rural Idaho faaaaaaaaast!!!" lol...
