Horsey Happy Birthday

Hi, Friends......

I was recently asked by a young gal to make a horse-themed birthday card for her to give to a friend. I was excited for the chance to use my Bella Blvd Barnyard collection again.
(You might recall I recently used it for a chicken-themed sympathy card for a gal who had lost a bunch of her hens in a skunk attack.)

I used last week's sketch from MFT, but didn't get it in on time to enter. No matter. Here's the sketch so you can see how I interpreted it.

For my card, I was trying to figure out how to make the adorable pony die cut stand out and not just look like a giant horse perched on top of a hilly barnyard. (I guess that would make it a "PERCHeron"! Bwahaha.......)

I think a bit of vellum behind the piece brings the focus up to the front and sets it off just enough without obscuring the fun patterned paper behind it. I was tickled to find that a birthday sentiment from a NBUS stamp set fit just right on the cloud, also. Love that the horse seems to be looking at it! :)

Supplies used include:
Bella Blvd - Barn Yard 6x8 Paper Pad (retired)
Bella Blvd - Barn Yard Paper Pieces (retired)
Lil' Inker - Rainbows and Clouds
Elizabeth Craft Designs - Farm Greetings (NBUS)
Versafine ink in Smokey Gray
M&C Boutique - Large Circle Frame die set
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set - retired
Scraps of solid cardstock and vellum from stash

Hope you enjoyed this fun card.....and I hope it helps a special young horse lover have a great birthday!

🖤
Janis

  5. What a fabulous card Janis - love the scene you created and popping the horse onto the vellum really works a treat! Clever use of the barnyard paper too!

Regarding the pronunciation of scone in the UK - it varies from region to region, not how 'upper class' one is supposed to be - or not. In the North it's pronounced to rhyme with 'gone' and in the South it's more likely to rhyme with 'cone'. I pronounce it to rhyme with 'gone' from living in Northumberland for so long - and my parents came from there so even though we lived abroad for many years I copied their pronunciation. You're also right that some pronounce it to rhyme with 'lawn' - for the most part that would be Scottish folk.

    Hugs

    1. Welcome, Kelly! So glad to make your acquaintance. Thank you for your very kind words.

Congratulations on the new feline addition to your home. How sweet of your daughter to rescue this little sweetheart...and how sweet of you to take care of kitty when your daughter is gone.

I have 16 cats...(Yes, you read that right, 16!!)...and most of them are rescues, also. Good thing I live in rural Idaho and my hubby is a veterinarian!!!! lol...

  9. Great read of how you thought through this take on the sketch, Janis! It's too bad you missed it, because it's a winner in my book! I love the adorable matching pp hill and the way you thought to add a spotlight circle of vellum to draw the eye to the horsey focus pocus! Genius! Putting the tiny sediment inside the circle right where he can read it is also genius! Take care and thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell
