Long, Skinny Format - Thank You

Hi, Friends.....

I am here with another card I made for the Waffle Flower Photo Inspiration Challenge, using their fabulous color palette.

This time I tried making a long, skinny format card. (Can you believe it is the first time I have ever done that? I am soooo crazy-attached to the familiar!!)

I kind of had to make it long and skinny because of this floral image I used.  I got this and others in a thrift store grab bag....and I wasn't even sure how they were supposed to be used.  They might be decals....but I decided to use them for cards.

I put this pretty one through my Xyron sticker maker so I could adhere it easily to my patterned paper background.  It worked perfectly.

My sentiment is from Quietfire.  I love the rustic, vintage look of it stamped with Distress Ink - Brushed Corduroy and embossed with clear powder.  I inked the panel slightly with the same pad.  I put this on some thrift store burlap mesh ribbon and added a 3-D bird sticker from a prize.  LOVE the texture from the ribbon and that serene little bird!!!

I added a twine bow and then decided the color of the twine was too pale.  So I carefully sponged some of the same Brushed Corduroy ink lightly on it....all this after the bow was attached to the card!!  It wasn't too hard because I slipped a piece of scrap paper underneath it to keep the ink from getting on the background.  The color difference is subtle, but I like this better.

This card was really fun because I was able to use a bunch of scraps and thrift store items.  Love getting to do that!!!  It sooooooo justifies me buying more craft stuff!!  Hahahaha.

  1. Oh I do love long and narrow cards Janis - either portrait or landscape. Fabulous decal you used there plus the additions. How brave to sponge the twine after adding it to the card!!

    1. Thank you, Di!! I think I will try making these long ones more often because I always have 3-1/2" wide strips from the notecard sets I make and sell locally. That width is just about right for backgrounds of this format. :)

  2. I forgot to say Janis, of course you'll be in the draw. Just because you won one week doesn't mean you have to sit out at all!

Sorry about the rather rude sniffing hound, he made me giggle a bit though!

    Hugs

  4. Wow Janis...this is gorgeous! I share your joy in using up old bits and pieces of stash so I found myself mentally ticking off each little element that you added to this card and out of your hoard (um, I mean supply stash..). What a concidence that I made a card yesterday that uses a floral image that I found in a box full of old stationary that I inherited from my mom (my own personal Thrift Shop). The tall format is just perfect for this image and as I LOVE blue color combos...this really pulls me in! The rustic texture of the twine and burlap are a wonderful contrast to the delicate flower and sweet bird. Add this to my list of favorites!!
