Kliban Cat in the Clouds

"Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly"

Hi, Friends.....

I am here today to share a Thinking of You card I made for a friend who is feeling under the weather.  She loves cats, so I pulled out a fanciful Kliban cat stamp I hadn't used for a long time.

I die cut some Add a Little Dazzle white craft metal to make more clouds for this sweet sky scene.  This piece of MAMBI paper already had some adorable clouds on it, but I wanted even more for better dimension.  (Why do I almost type dementia whenever I am trying to type that word????)  The dies are from Lil' Inker Rainbows & Clouds.  Don't they go perfectly with the ones on the patterned paper?

After cutting out the clouds, one flipped over and I loved the look of the silver reverse with the white.  So I kept one of them turned over for a gleaming silver cloud.  I hadn't planned on doing that, or I would have cut a silver one on purpose so the smooth edges were on the correct side.  Even so, I really love how it looks....upside down and all.  You can see the detail below.

I stamped my goofy flying cat with Memento - Tuxedo Black onto a snippet of thick cardstock.  I watercolored his scarf with waterbrush and Crayola watercolor pencils, and then fussy cut him out.

My sentiment is on a snippet of cardstock with a stamp from The Alley Way Stamps - Speak Easy set.  Love how well this casual font works with this enthusiastic and determined cat.  I had previously snipped the sentiment stamp into two segments for this card, but I put it in one long wavy line this time.  I like the effect.  Do you?

I put the kitty and the sentiment panel up on foam for a 3D look.  LOVE how this card turned out.  I hope it will bring a smile to my friend's heart.

Have a lovely rest of the weekend and I'll see you later.

  5. Oh Janis - this is wonderful - a flying cat! Not wonder you've settled into the Snippets Playground so well - everyone who plays needs to be a bit (ahem) prone to silliness and fun :) Clever the way you used the reverse of the silver cloud, it just makes things pop!

I don't think I'm following you as yet - just need to fix that. And I do love your funnies at the top of your posts :)

    Hugs

    Di xx

  9. Oh my gosh Janis!! Those metal die cut clouds are wonderful!!!! This card is going to make your friend swoon with delight! The funny thing is that I own only ONE Kliban cat stamp, and it's this very same one. I even remember when I bought it about 20 years ago in San Francisco at a little shop that sold only cat-themed items. You did this stamp proud !

    1. Thanks so much, Karen.

That is funny abt you having this same stamp. I can't remember for sure, but I think this particular stamp also came from a cat-themed shop in Seattle......prob around 20 years ago, too. It actually belongs to my daughter (but all stamps in the house eventually migrate into my stash....) and I think an aunt who used to live there gave it to her. She used to buy a lot of fun gifts for us at the cat shop. :)

I'm not surprised you found your stamp in SF. If I recall correctly, Kliban lived there for quite a number of years before his death. I'd have to look that up, though.

    2. I think that I originally bought that Kliban cat stamp for my daughter too, but it's mine now!! Haha! I also have a Kliban cat cartoon book that I got around the same time. Yes, B. Kliban did live in SF for some time, and in northern California after that. Too bad I didn't buy more Kliban cat stamps at the time because apparently they are collectors items among rubber stamp aficionados (and cat lovers!).

    3. Oh, that is funny how you got the stamp for your daughter, too!! Hahaha.. I can imagine that these Kliban stamps are collectors items now. I adore his quirky cat drawings!!!

For a wedding gift from family friends who knew I loved cats, we received a Kliban comforter with his classic striped cat in red sneakers all over it. Fun. We still have it (33 years later) but it's not currently in use. I pick up Kliban cat mugs at thrift stores when I see them, but they get snagged up pretty fast so I don't see them often.
