Hi, Friends.....

Not only is February an exciting month because of my birthday....but because it is the humongous Winnie & Walter 4th Birthday celebration, too!!! Oh, my...you cannot wait to get in on all the challenges and giveaways going on all month over there. Most of the cards and projects I make this month will be entered into one or more of the 10 W&W challenges.....yes, that's right....10!! Check out all the details HERE.

Today, I also am playing along with Mrs. A's Butterfly Challenge with the Letter C. She has changed things around a little bit with her letter challenge and now has lots of options to choose from. My card is using the Butterfly/ies + C is for Crimson and Corners. The other "C" options are Cornflower, Cream, Charms, and Checks. Surely a couple of those have tickled your fancy. I hope you will join in the fun.

At first I was only going to use butterflies die cut from the black doily, but then I decided they would look better with some solid crimson cardstock underneath. In retrospect, I should have glued the layers together before die cutting...but, alas!  This is a good example of what I am now calling "Craft of the Staircase".
Are you familiar with the saying "Wit of the Staircase"? It's when you think of the perfect reply or course of action....AFTER it is too late and you are already on your way home (down the staircase). Also known as Escalator Wit or Afterwit.....or in French: L'esprit de l'escalier. I have no idea how to say "Craft of the Staircase" in French, but you get the idea. Thinking of the perfect (and oftentimes obvious) solution to some crafting conundrum AFTER you have already done something different.   Ha!  Story of my life.....

Supplies used include:
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Audrey Cutaways die set (has scallops)
Winnie & Walter - Essentials: Katharine Cutaways die set
Fiskars - Corner Edgers "Nostalgia"
Clear Dollar Stamps - Easter Blessings stamp set (discontinued)
Versamark Ink
WOW! Embossing Powder - Opaque Bright White Regular
Want 2 Scrap - Adhesive Pearls
Doodlebug - Mini Doilies

Do you think this card is too bright for a sympathy card??? I usually try to keep that kind of card more subdued....pastels or neutrals...but this seemed to work. What do you think?

Thank you so much for stopping in today and leaving your wonderful comments.

  1. Beautiful card, Janis! I think it's perfect for a sympathy card! I make a lot of sympathy cards for my Mom as she seems to send a lot of them. She requests bright, cheerful colours because they are supposed to bring some comfort, not be depressing. On another topic, is it a requirement to use Winnie and Walter products for their challenges? I've never played there before. I won a prize from them but just placed my order yesterday; who knows when it will make its way to Canada with our mail system. I'm going to check them out...

  2. Thank you so much for your kind words, Kitty!!

    RE: Using W&W products....
Yes, you need to use at least one of their products on each entry, but they do have printable freebies on their site. Yay!!!

    Hope that helps!

  5. Beautiful sympathy card. I never knew what that was called when you have the perfect reply after the fact.

  6. I really like these deep colors and think it's just perfect for a sympathy card. The butterflies and flowers are a sign of hope for the future, as well as comfort, and that stamped sentiment band really grounds the whole design. This is beautiful!
P/S: I think almost every crafter worth her, or his, glitter has had that Craft of the Staircase moment. I, myself, tend to think of those moments as forehead-smacking (as in, "DOH!!") events. If you aren't having those moments, it just means you're not trying anything new!!

  9. This is definitely a beautiful card Janis. As for the staircase thing, I have never heard of this term however, I do it all the time. LOL
I suppose its personal preference but I always make sympathy cards in light, pastel colours. I wouldn't say either way is right or wrong, its just what I do.
